Default Message Board Deliberation

I am trying to choose between message boards. The two that I see coming up the most are PHPBB and MercuryBoard. I tried to make my own and got the basics down.

It was a real eye opener to see how little I really knew!

Can anyone give some thoughts as to which board they feel is the best. A plus would be if I could cutomize the look of it. I am trying to keep the same look as my site now.

I am getting close to the point of breaking down and buying a complete source message board, but I'm afraid if I do that I won't know how to customize it.

Also, any php community people, please give me a link to a website that is involved in open source. I just finished my first ever php contact mangement system, based on Top Producer 6I. Going to offer it open source.

Surely if you have the skills to code php content management systems you can alter the html output of a bb.

http://sourceforge.net/index.php
"SourceForge.net is the world's largest Open Source software development website"

Or

http://freshmeat.net
"the Web's largest index of Unix and cross-platform software"

Default Previous discussion on forum boards

Discussion Boards: Invision Power Board

Great discussion on the Invision Power Board compared to phpBB. Pricing, ease of modification and performance issues are all discussed.

That's the same thing I thought! I downloaded phpBB and uploaded to my server. Explored to contents of the upload and they have got it all spread out in functions and such.

They just don't want to make it easy.

Thanks again paulhiles for pointing me in the right direction. steve0 thanks for the link sourceforge is awesome. I will post the link to my contact management system as soon as I upload it.
