You are really evangelizing Mambo. I use PHPNuke, and if I were to be honest with myself, I'd say that I only use it because it is what I have always used. I've dabbled with PostNuke, but whenever I need to install a CMS, I go back to PHPNuke.

You've got my attention, though so what are like the top three things that make you use mambo instead of Nuke (besides security)?

Hi hey both Cyanide and obu have experience with Xoops ... it's the content system I use on my site (MSTBIE). I can say this about it ... it is very customizable but not as well developed as Mambo and can be buggy at times ... Cyanide knows this first hand :-) The pages are very search engine friendly ... it's based on one template theme but they have just developed a new module that allows you to create individual pages per section/module therefore allowing different title tags etc.

We are building out some other sites with Mambo not because we dislike Xoops but Mambo has some different modules that will work better with what we are trying to accomplish.

Both are good systems IMO and both have good support so I guess it depends on what your looking to add into your CMS.

Yeah, I am lol - I tried it out over a year ago, and although I liked it, one of the downfalls for me was the lack of search-engine friendliness.

Top 3 ?
1. Search engine friendliness - had to do some hacking to really modify the seo, but trying to do the same thing with the nukes is darn near impossible, atleast when I had tried it last

2. Speed. - The one thing I didn't like about the nukes, is I found it sluggish... however it seems to have improved. - mambo zips a long.

3. Sleek and slender. - It doesn't have all the modules that the nukes do, but IMO, for most uses, you don't need them all. But still many third-party modules are available that can be installed.

4. Customizeable - Another downfall of the nukes, is without some serious hacking, they all pretty much look the same. A little less work, and mambo can be distinguished.

oops, that's 4

Default Mambo

I installed Mambo for a new domain I bought that I'm going to turn into a portal for this sleepy little burg I live outside of.

I'm working on an article about my experience with it from the perspective of someone used to using Nuke. Here are my main praises and grumbles:

The Mambo template system blew me away! I've never seen something so genius. I like how tight the code is; the Mambo developers are able to do more with a single file than Nuke does with three directories. The ability to modify the template php and css through the backend id kinda cool, but I still find myself breaking out my ftp-enabled text editor.

It seems to be built for people who are clueless about PHP, this is good for them, but I've found that making code mods is trickier than it needs to be because the user interface was designed to be so user friendly. I also despise the extensive use of javascript on the backend. Operating the backend seems to take far too many clicks to get something done.

I'm willing to admit that many of my dislikes so far may be due to my "nuke mentality".

I do see a lot of potential with Mambo, and despite my occasional threats to my monitor to install nuke over mambo and forget all about it, I think I'm going to stick it out and see how it goes.

Default e107 for me!!

I have used e107 since its birth - I strayed for a while and tried putting together something seperate - vb intergrated with photopost etc - but 6 months later decided to go back to e107.. I did try xooops a long time ago and was not impressed - but then that coulda been just a bad day. I find e107 has a good team behind it all willing to muck in and improve it at every chance. Real easy to use - install and add mods with plenty available inluding skins... My link below for adult chat uses e107..

Id give it the thumbs up!!

Default

I went with e107 for a home owner community site that I had built. It works just fine, unfortunatly it has been up for a few months and still does not appear in google. Not that I have really tried becuase it is a private site. But I am not sure how well e107 is SEO'd.

Anyone have tips to making e107 seo friendly?
