Default Simple Store Locator Script in Javascript

-------
Jun 11, 2004

Is it possible to produce a simple non-dynamic store locator script that:

(1) is written completely in Javascript

(2) uses a simple ".csv" text file for the database

If so, please refer me to a link.

Sure, I'm sure it's possible. You might try javascript.internet.com to see if they have something. Or, try here:

A script would be a fairly easy task, the major problem would be getting the database info. I am currently trying to get this info as cheap as possible for UK postcodes with lat and long references. The info is available, but with a hefty price tag and as there are 1.9 million postal code sectors in the UK I really dont fancy the inputting.

Though if you only need to cover a small area an image map with dynamic links to a results page would be a neat method of doing it.

php~pro; I have not met an on-line yellowpages yet tht cannot be completely spidered and stolen. Complete with lat/longs and postal codes. I find this enjoyable. And I can point out lots of legal decisions that say it's just fine to do this.

You might want to do your own category system though...that's the one thing they might have some copyright on.

But I am neither lame nor lazy. I dont steal the work of others. All I would like is legal data at an affordable price.

I agree. I wrote a hell of a spider last year. Once configured it automatically re-indexes the updated pages and deletes all depleated content from my database. Further to this you can program a schedule into it. This baby would spider the entire net. Good thing is I wrote it my self and dint need to resort to lame tactics and steal it. If people knew how to secure a site your bot shouldnt be able to acces unauthorised areas enabling you to steal.
