Default PHP Calendar Recommendation

Hello all,

I am currently working on building a portal site, and was wondering if I could save some searching/installing/testing time by having someone recommend a good PHP calendar application.

What I want it for is several items listed below:
  • I want a general community calendar for events
A personallizable mini-calendar for members so they can add/remove etc after they log-in (similar to ones on yahoo/excite etc)
A admin feature to control the community calendar with

And if one package could work for both (even if mods need to be done) it would be great.

Any one know of one off hand? Thanks in advance.

I know geeklog has this standard feature.

You can see it on my site:
http://FFAHOO.com

At the end of the page on the right there is
a link to geeklog site.

I think other CMS as postnuke and phpnuke have
also this feature but I didn't test it directly.

Billy - There is a Calendar hack to the phpBB software. And also a hack to that hack which adds in Event tracking.

Originally it was for birthdays, then modified to be driven by forum entries. I am not sure if it has the mini-calendar to go with it.

This is actually an add-on to phpBB, but I think you can glean the code a little easier and adapt it for you purposes this way.

The Calendar hack is at http://www.phpbbhacks.com/viewhack.php?id=152. And the Events List hack for that is at http://www.phpbbhacks.com/viewhack.php?id=1898.

Hi southplatte

You might want to take a look at WebCalender, looks very full featured, was just looking at trying it out myself, definitely worth a look.

Wow tempotantrum, that one looks like a sweet project. I checked them out at SFN and they are pretty active on it and have been for about 4 years now. Looks like a popular one too. Nice find.

Never thought about them (which is unusual) and dug up 244 other projects there that are similar. Here is a list that is filtered.

Wow, Thanks for all the great info - I think I have some great leads to follow up on now! I will definitely be looking at the phpBB hack as I am going to be running it as well.

Did a quick look at the WebCalendar tempotantrum and it looks pretty good.

As always, WPW comes forth with answers in a quick and timely fashion! I love this place!

Hi Southplatte, I work with www.webs4christ.com. We currently use PHPnuke for some of our clients. I developed a site for Burton Assembly of God and added a calendar using WebCalendar. You can view it if you go to http://www.burtonag.webs4christ.net and click the calendar link. It is easy to update and many users can have there own calendar as well. You can even update it using your palm pilot calendar program and uploading it to the WebCalendar. Check it out, this is an actual working version. Lew<")><

The phpBB hack will show you how to hook into the system. Should be pretty easy to adapt the WebCalendar in it's place with a little work. Could be an interesting project and I wish you luck.

I don't know if you are aware of it yet, but phpBB will be releasing phpBB version 2.2 hopefully pretty soon. This version is going to rock, the developers are designing a portal around the core features and adding in some of the more popular mods for the system. I would imagine the Calendar will be part of it. Some offshoots of phpBB, like Minerva and phpBB Plus (I guess they are being superceded by Minerva now) have it built into them.

I have recently installed WebCalendar v0.9.41 to good effect. Haven't used it in anger yet, but it seems feature rich and it's free

Mine is here http://www.soane.net/cal/

virtual_odin, I couldn't logon to your calendar to check it out. WebCalendar provides for public or private viewing.
