Default Road Trip Blog

Since he was young, it's been my Dad's dream to drive across Canada in a Winnebago. He has in the last few years pressured another ambition of becoming a biker and is now the proud owner or a Triumph Speed Triple (beautiful machine!), so his dream has now morphed into riding across Canada on a motorbike.

For his 50th birthday we all chipped in to pay for his trip of a life time and he is setting off across the Atlantic this autumn.

He wants to be able to document his trip on the web so we can all follow his progress, this is what I have been tasked with. The obvious solution is a Wordpress blog.

I'm heavily into HTML/CSS design and SEO but am not to clued up on Wordpress. Saying that, I have set up one blog before though with no trouble.

It will need to be able to be updated by him very easily, partly because he's not to technically clued up with the web and also he will obviously have limited access to hardware for accessing the Internet. I understand that you can email posts to a Wordpress blog as standard, but can this be done with images and video?

I have an idea of him being able to show his progress on a map, or maybe map the locations of each post.

Has anybody got any idea's on how I can make it a bit more special than a regular blog and tailor it to his needs?

Default Re: Road Trip Blog

The Google Maps API may be a good choice for mapping locations (especially if you can get it set up to use Satellite View by default) - try a search for google maps mashup and you may find someone else who has already put together a WordPress plugin that will suit your needs.

Can't say whether WP's post-by-e-mail feature would be sufficient, though it would be doubtful (especially if you need to get coordinates for map postings in).
