YouTube bad quality - alternative for wordpress?

hi, i have been using YouTube to put videos on my wordpress blog. But i'm not happy with the quality of image. Some videos are really blurry.

Is there an alternative for YouTube? one that gives better quality and is easy to use just like youtube?

A friend told me that if you're putting your OWN video on youtube and letting them do the format conversion, that is why you have bad quality. If you do your own conversion into flash and learn how to do it well, then upload, you'll have a much better youtube video. Is there anyone else who knows about this?

There is a free plugin for Wordpress that lets you embed YouTube, Google Video and even video you host yourself. It's called Viper's Video Quicktags.

I just started using it and only used it for a YouTube video so far, so I don't have a lot of experience with it, but thought I'd throw it out there if you want to try it.

Ziddio, owned by Comcast. Still picking up steam. Mostly geared to talent-type videos, but the 'channels' pretty much cover everything. Disclaimer, they say your video may end up on tv, per their tos. May or may not be a good thing.

Res is decent, and vids have embedding options.

I tend to think, after my few efforts, that it's the quality of the video and its format that matter more than the site you upload to.

Not too up on Video, but I have just used GoogleVideo to host a short vid of our London catwalk fashion show to put on our website, & it all seemed to go really well, & pretty easy to do; not too techie, hope this helps someone. (Although as I have no knowledge of editing videos the quality is not perfect, & the image does turn to one side part way through...& then back to show the right way, & so thanks jencam for that link - I may need it!)

video via flash = poor quality video - every single time - no way around it. flash just doesn't do video well.

Why is it so popular? Because:

1- humans are stupid

2- embedding regular video takes a few seconds to do.

HIRE A PRO or learn how to embed video yourself. After all this is business right? And you do know that it costs money and time to do business right?

My oldest daughther was impressed about the quality of movies (some more than 1/2 hour long) taken by the standard Sony camera.

Movies over IP, Tv over IP. It is here now, and it will increase.

Haven't you watched Cnn where the Tv screen is split in two equal parts.

1. Ordinary channel.
2. Live broadband channel, same quality.

This is the digital revolution.

Tv stations will get competition from small companies. Hollywood is no longer as far as I know the biggest movie maker in the world. It is India's Premier Bollywood Portal - BollywoodWorld.com .

Youtube compresses your video file inorder to make it download fast. This is the only reason why you are seeing images blurry.

Not sure about that, when optimized properly you can get some good results with flv.

The problem with YouTube is that its an automated service and with everything done by the computer brain its doesnt see like a human's eye.

Quality v File size is what is the problem.

When optimising media like images (jpg / gif) and video( mpeg/mov/flv etc) there is a compression applied.

You can set that optimisation level and its a case of weighing up the quality against the file size.

When viewing TV channels ( through a standard TV) for instance you see a very high level of detail because there is a lot of data coming through to your television.

On the internet however bandwidth / data trasfer is a huge issue, the more data - the higher level of detail.

If you export an flv (or any file) to a 90% level you will get a high quality video but a big file size.

If you export an flv to a 10% level you will get a low quality video but a small file size.

The problem with Youtube is that its an automated process ( the compression is done on their own network/ servers) and it produces low quality videos for 2 reasons ; mainly so users can view videos without waiting a while for them to stream and to keep their own bandwidth / storage levels down.

There are literally 1000's of video players/websites out there that do the same thing YouTube does. But, learning about formats, encoding, bit-rate, resolution, etc.. will help you to publish better quality videos in general.
