Social Network for Webmasters

I'm thinking about creating a social network style site aimed at webmasters and web entrepeneurs.

I can't seem to find such a site.

Would people join?

I just want to gauge the idea with the pros here.

Comments and suggestions welcome.

About 6 - 8 months ago I made a site for people who are invovled in SEO. I have never done anything with it, and it still sits dorment. It was going to be a social network for search marketers. I'm really not sure if it is something people are interested in. I mentioned it in a forum shortly after I made it and no one joined or commentd on it so I just abandoned the project. I didn't get the feeling I was looking for.

Waht is this social networrk yoou are talkin about . If I am not worng you mean this forum is social media so are websites liek orkut etc I guess.

I launched a social and business networking site for the real estate industry last month and it is starting to get some people using it and the signup numbers are slowly but surely picking up. So I believe your idea would work with enough promotion. Telling enough people about it is the key as with any other site.

I think its good idea to start SN site for webmaster but seems difficult to compete with webmaster forums.

it is so many social sites out there. ever since myspace it seems like a lot are jumping on the bandwagon and then even after digg they are still creating niche social sites. so interesting. facebook still continues to take off though.

Yes, webmasters and developers are now twittering around facebook, best to create a group of webmaster in facebook and invite people.

social networking is a nice site to get traffics. . .You'll certainly have a success on it!

well, you could look in ning.com and see some seo social networks there. you could also use the same site to see if it would work out for you.

I think you should first ask; What is a social network, how does it compare to a discussion forum, or a blog for that matter. Maybe this will give you insight to market demand.

(It's interesting to see an answer evolve almost 1 year later.)
