Default Switching from Blogger to Wordpress

i'm thinking of switching a blog from blogger over to wordpress. is there any way of getting all my previous posts into wordpress from blogger? or will i just have to copy, paste and post date them one by one?
has anyone ever switched a blog this way? the current blog doesn't have really great rankings, but i don't want to mess anything up or lose the older posts either.

I believe Wordpress has an import script.
Failing that, then yes most likely you will have to do it manually, as I'm sure Blogger won't give you access to their database

That's a great question though.
Not having access to the database is one reason I would not sign up for Blogger.

In WP Admin hit IMPORT and select Blogger. Follow their advice and backup your template etc.

As for not having access to your data in Blogger, that's why publishing to your own server is recommended; then you can backup your posts etc, even though it doesn't solve the "full access to your data so you can move it elsewhere" scenario.

Another reason for shifting away from Blogger is their awful feeds introduced in the last beta - not good for links as they all point to Blogger.com and not your blog's URL.

I moved my blogs from blogger to my self hosted wordpress blogs about two months ago. At the time I had to backup the posts via wordpress.com and then copy them over to my own wordpress domains. But since then the WP software has been updated and you should be able to import direct from Blogger to your Wordpress blog. Here is the post where I explained how the Blogger posts were copied to Wordpress.

You may need a permanent 301 redirect I guess, check with wordpress community for more assistance on this.

Thumbs up Re: Switching from Blogger to Wordpress

Just wanted to know if you or anyone else here ever heard of the newest social network which I believe is the absolute BEST by far. They actually pay their free members 80% of the advertising revenue. I thought that this would be something you'd want to join (as a company or individual) and place a link on your website. Well, if you haven't heard of it yet, here it is

Hi,

did the same a while back, Wordpress does have a Blogger import facility, but for me this did not work.

What I did was,

1. Go to Wordpress and open a new blog on the Wordpress site
2. Import my blogger - blog to that site.
3. In the new Wordpress blog, export all posts to your desktop.
4. In your own hosted Wordpress blog, Import from your desktop backup.

Was easy! , but took a while to sort out, Hope that helps!

Make sure you keep Wordpress updated with the latest version!

Portable data / carrying your data with you, still remains a hot topic today. Most popular CMS usually have some sort of data import/export feature that can assist with moving your data.

How about just create another blog with wordpress or just use your own domain for your existing blog?
