Default Homepage redirecting to blog

I have a site: http://www.affiliateblogonline.com/ of which I use the blog as the home page so that URL redirects automatically to this URL for the blog: http://www.affiliateblogonline.com/blog/24_blog.php.

I guess what I am wanting to know is there any reason why this might be detrimental in some way. Should I instead have my home page URL as its own page and not redirect automactically to the blog?

I am thinking of this in terms of how the search engines will see all of this and how pagerank will be determined. I have been submitting this URL http://www.affiliateblogonline.com/ to directories etc and not the blog URL but is this a waste as the homepage URL won't be seen at all as it redirects automatically to the blog?

Hope I have made sense here.

Can you tell first why do you want to do that? I don't get you there... :)

Well I wanted to have the blog as the home page and to do that with the website builder I have it had to be done that way. But then I started to think that there probably wasn't any need to have the blog as the home page anyway but before I go changing anything I wanted to get some expert opinions.

It does not redirect automatically. You must do a kind of permanent redirects 301.

You really need to install your blog on your home page (at the root). But, you have several options:

You can change the home page of your site in your website's config file so that it thinks your home page is /blog/24_blog.php and not index.html.

You can also use a 301 Permanent Redirect to redirect your home page to your /blog/24_blog.php page.

You can make a static home page on your site and link to your top posts or your favorite posts and add more text to your real home page and then link to your blog.

But, if it's a blog site then you really should install your blog at your root and not in the /blog directory.

Well I just decided to change it so now the home page is the home page and the blog links from the home page.

Thanks for your help.
