Default Do follow tag and spammers!

So a quick question for all of you bloggers...

about 8 months ago I installed the dofollow tag (because wordpress comes stock w/ a nofollow script) After changing this I noticed that I was getting MORE AND MORE SPAM!

It's really getting to the point of being ridiculous... yesterday 282 comments were submitted to my moderation Que and 2 were approved (the rest were SPAM)

Anyone else operating their blog along these lines and see a HUGE increase in Spam?

I don't know about the follow/nofollow (meta?) tag... but what about word verification? I have it turned on and have gotten 2 spams (although my blog isn't the most popular). I'm also notified when a new comment is posted...

If I start getting more than 10 a day, I'm going to turn off word verification and turn on Comment Approvals (comments must be approved prior to posting).

The bigger worry for me though is, if spammers go to an archived page (which I've seen them do), and post there, and the notification e-mail either doesn't get sent or otherwise gets lost, I'd never know their spam was in there.

I just now submitted a suggestion to Blogger: "Show all comments on one page (or paged) in a flat-list partial-text view - I'd love to be able to review them all". Comments aren't even locally stored on my domain, so they're pretty much out of my grasp (unless I can find a spider for such a task)... As it is, I have to go page by page and search for [!"0 comments"]

Default Started getting SPAM today

Hello guys,
I came by to get some tips on making changes in Wordpress. It's interesting that you are discussing this topic, only today I received 3 messages from the same Spammer - using different names but pointing to the same Blogger Blog.

While I am happy that others have found my blog - I'd rather it remain SPAM free (oh wow...great wish).

I have restrictions on my site - you must be a registered member to post comments. However, I just discovered that a comment can be made automatically by anyone through the Trackback/Permalinks feature. I'm now wondering what are the best adjustments to make in order to prevent this.

Any tips are welcome,
Marlamar

If you are using trackback, it will be boon for the spammers, they simply point their spammy pages at your blog entries using it as a result the blog entries can be unknowingly point back at spammers websites and that will pointing back to your blog.
