At first glance I can see right off that the content is less important then the ads. This to be honest this brakes the golden rule "Create the site for visitors" This site was created for ads not for me so I left.

I would move the Categories and Archive drop down boxes and place them right under the follow me on twitter next I would kill the full screen pop up ads that one receives on every page as that is the fastest way to make people leave. I would also loose the Related sites and Information boxes as they show unrelated content and link to unrelated sites.

If I were into cooking this site would be very good for me. It seems like you touched all the bases as far as variety's. I do have to agree about the ads. Maybe if you put them all at the bottom. I also know you need to monetize the site so am understanding.

I also like the layout and agree that the Ads are a turn off. The only other comment I would have is the menu is kind of clunky. It's a little slow to load when changing between menu options and i prefer the drop downs to run in a single column but that is just me
