I would say that the main things that I notice are:

- I like your top banner/image: it immediately tells people that your site is about the UK
- The site's slow to load
- The Google image ads ruin the look of the index page
- There are too many ads on most pages - they detract from the listings
- You're in a very competitive sector. You may struggle to make any money unless you can do more to encourage businesses to list on your directory
- You need to set aside a fair bit of money for SEO/PPC if you want to stand out from the crowd

Your site design is basically good and quite pleasing but (and I agree with SouthamptonAngel) the amount of advertising will detract from the user experience and the site would work better if you limited goggle advertising on the site.

The pages loaded quite quickly (I am in the UK) and the previous comments may have been a result of some temporary issue.
