Hi, hope your all good today,

I have just designed the index page for a new site and I have used CSS for the first time. http://www.purexltd.co.uk/solderfume/index.html

It would be great to get your opinions on the first page and I also have a couple of questions if you'd be so kind to take a look.

Does everything render correctly in your browser?

Does the colour scheme work?

I have centered the two lines of text both vertically and horizontally in the top bar between the logo and the picture of the circuit board in the CSS as the h1 tag. But on a PC it keeps going to the top of the box and I can't get it to centralize vertically unless I take the h1 tag off and manually format it?

Hope you can all help

Kind regards, Jon--

Hello,
The page looks good in both IE and Mozilla.
The color scheme works. A little dark but if that is what you are going for then it is ok.

Also I feel that your Contact Us on the right in the red gets lost in your page. I see you have it on the left menu so maybe you don't need it up top.

As for the text try to take it out of the table in the middle cell and just paste it in the middle cell.

Like this and it worked for me:

<table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0">
<tr align="center" valign="middle">
<td width="140" height="70" bgcolor="#FF9900">
<center>
<a name="top"></a>
</center></td>
<td valign="middle" width="540" height="70" bgcolor="#FF9900">
<center>
<h1>Purex fume extraction systems for solder fume utilise specialist

HEPA filters and carbon filters to ensure employee occupational health.</h1></center></td>
<td width="100" height="70">
<center>

</center></td>
</tr>
</table>

Hope that helps :)

I looked at your page in both Netscape 4.76 and IE5.0 on a PC with a screen width of 800 pixels.

Both were pretty much ok. The text 'Select Soldering Type > ' was barely large enough to read in IE. I concur that the white on red Contact Us isn't very readbale. Maybe if it were bold, or white on black with a red border around the cell maybe?

I'm not sure I like the link colour in the main text (colophony). I have to admit I like standard blue underlined text for links.

In NS4.76 all the links are underlined, which is a bit much with all the links on that page. Also the mouseovers don't work, but you may not be concerned about functionality on old browsers.

Finally, I once read that if a navigation system needs explaining, it won't work. I tend to agree.

Thanks for the comeback guys.

1.
I've implemented your suggestions here http://www.purexltd.co.uk/solderfume , what do you think?

2.
I use Dreamweaver on a Mac to create my sites. The non-centering h1 tag is causing me a problem as I have to leave it out and manually format to get the text to center vertically. I understand that not having h1 tags is bad for the engines?

It looks like I am getting an extra return at the end of the text which pushes it up the cell?

The dreamweaver code is here:

Top box:

<th width="540" height="70" align="center" valign="middle" bgcolor="#FF9900">
<h1>Purex fume extraction systems for solder fume utilise specialist HEPA filters and carbon filters to ensure employee occupational health.</h1>
</th>

Bottom box:

<table width="778" border="1" cellpadding="2" bordercolor="#999999">
<tr align="center" valign="top">
<th colspan="3">
<h1>Purex Fume Extraction Product Portfolio</h1>
</th>
</tr>

Thoughts anyone?

Hello,
The visited links turn grey on the top grey navigaion bar. This makes the text blend in with the background.

I keep playing around with your table problem - but I can't seem to figure it out.
I am using Adobe Golive on windows. It shows that it is centered in my layout but when I preview it, it is towards the top again.

PS: It's not just h1, it's all h tags.
