Default Please review my new Personals site!

Ok I released this a few weeks ago..By some miracle, Ive been getting registrations. LOL

It's a cross between Ebay and Match.com!

I want your opinion from a usability perspective.

Is it easy and intuitive to use? Is the concept easy enough to understand?

How is the looks of the site? Basic I know.

I guess I can't post URLs in here yet? here is it below.

Personally I think you stand to make money, but with that I'm not sure if I would join just so I could chat with someone when I can chat with someone for free on most other sites. I also think your FAQ does not cover alot / none of the question one may have. I have also read your learn more thread and still have questions that you may want to include into your FAQ.

1. I just paid 10 buck for points. How many points did I get? This info is good so I can find out how many points each auction costs. I know you stated I could win 6 auctions, but that does not tell me how many points I get or how many points each auction costs.
2. If I retract my bid does it still cost me points?
3. If my bid is removed does it cost me points?
4. Does it cost me points to start an auction? Or is an auction started once I place an ad? If one is started once I place an ad, why would one be started automatically if someone is interested in me?
5. Do you have featured placement? If so, do these auctions cost more to bid on?
6. I do not want to sign up just to preview profiles. You may want to set it that viewing is free but to do anything but view costs points.
7. If I sign up just to view who is on your site to see if anyone is there that I may want to chat with, is my profile public? Can people start an auction for me just because I signed up?
8. If I remove a bid can that person just bid again or can I ban that person from bidding?
9. What types of payment do you accept? I'm not going to sign up just to find out you only accept PayPal.

Your pop up sign in page needs to be redone as it is too easy to just view the source code and paste the URL of a profile into their browser to view it.
example:
/p/3a321c66-b2f2-420c-b3a2-9eb56a856d86/myprofile.aspx <-- found in source code
http://www.lovebids.com/p/3a321c66-b2f2-420c-b3a2-9eb56a856d86/myprofile.aspx <--- Working URL.
All I need to do now is execute a java script and I can message, send flirts, etc.

I do not like your 404 page as I feel it tells way too much about your hosting.

You should make it so people can search the site for a while without signing up.

What can be said in response to this? You want to sample the milk before you buy the cow?

"What about letting...?" reads so much friendlier than, "You should make it so..." and leaves room for the OP to respond.

Putting ideas in the form of a question lets other feel a part of, and more willing partners in their fruition.

amxfan,
Here is the answers to your questions..Some need more clarification.

1. I just paid 10 buck for points. How many points did I get? This info is good so I can find out how many points each auction costs. I know you stated I could win 6 auctions, but that does not tell me how many points I get or how many points each auction costs.

When you make a $10 purchase, it will tell you how many points you get..It also shows it under "My Account"

2. If I retract my bid does it still cost me points?

Nope. Points are released when you remove a bid or lose the auction.

3. If my bid is removed does it cost me points?

Nope..You get your points back.

4. Does it cost me points to start an auction? Or is an auction started once I place an ad? If one is started once I place an ad, why would one be started automatically if someone is interested in me?

Does not cost anything to start an auction. You can 1)Create one on yourself to start the timer or 2) Someone else can simply start bidding on you and an auction is started automatically.

5. Do you have featured placement? If so, do these auctions cost more to bid on?

Not yet..Maybe eventually.

6. I do not want to sign up just to preview profiles. You may want to set it that viewing is free but to do anything but view costs points.

The method I am using seems to work well for Match and other sites. Maybe I can consider taking this off once I have say 100,000 members?

7. If I sign up just to view who is on your site to see if anyone is there that I may want to chat with, is my profile public? Can people start an auction for me just because I signed up?

Yes. But Im working on a mechanism where you can set your status to "Unavailable for auctions"

8. If I remove a bid can that person just bid again or can I ban that person from bidding?

You can remove and ignore the person..Ignoring will essentially prevent the user from communicating or bidding on you again.

9. What types of payment do you accept? I'm not going to sign up just to find out you only accept PayPal.

Well, paypal is my option right now. You can use a cc without signing up with a paypal account..I was hoping this would be sufficient for now.

Your pop up sign in page needs to be redone as it is too easy to just view the source code and paste the URL of a profile into their browser to view it.
example:
REMOVED because the stupid system wont let me post URLS.

All I need to do now is execute a java script and I can message, send flirts, etc.

Im not sure what you mean here..Yes, you can figure out the URL and go to other profiles, however, if you try to send flirts or send messages, you must be logged in to do it.

I do not like your 404 page as I feel it tells way too much about your hosting.

Yep, it shows dotnet hosting..But the URL does that as well. I need a better 404 page thats for sure! In fact I have one, it's just not pulling up.

Very good questions! Thanks!

Thanks..I thought about it..Match.com is pretty successful with the approach Im using.

I don't know...I'll be interested in hearing the arguments on requiring them to register right away Vs. waiting until they search a little

Thanks for your reply.

I'm not sure if we are on the same page as to why I asked the questions. I posted the questions due to if I had them I would think other people would too. They were there to help you complete your FAQ and maybe include a few of them to help answer the questions visitors might have when they arrive at your site. To be honest I think my wife would get a little upset if I were to flirt with a 20 year old babe anyways

Bad joke:
Do you know what is bad about 22 year olds?

There's 20 of them

Congrats on making site of the day.

Ok gotcha..Sorry...Yea I was planning on filling the FAQs when I got more of them..

Thanks for that!

I got another question..I just had a girl signup and post a few provacative pics. She is not naked or anything, but there are some closeups of particular parts..Ive been thinking what I need to do to handle posts such as these..What do other sites do? Obviously I won't be able to "approve" every picture posted..Or do I?

Is a mechanism needed to allow people to mark picture as "inappropriate'? It's not that bad, but I really dont want my site turning into that!

Can we assume there is some form of pre-approval before anyone but the original poster actually sees an uploaded picture, owing to the nature of the site?

Is there a disclaimer on your site that restricts use (implicitly) to adults (age of majority)?

Are there ICRA or other PICS labels that indicate the adult nature of the pages on your site so that parental controls can filter them properly?

Code:
<link rel="meta" href="http://example.com/labels.xml" type="application/rdf+xml" title="ICRA labels" />
<meta http-equiv="pics-Label" content='(pics-1.1 "http://www.icra.org/pics/vocabularyv03/" l gen true for "http://example.com" r (n 0 s 0 v 0 l 0 oa 0 ob 0 oc 0 od 0 oe 0 of 0 og 0 oh 0 c 0) gen true for "http://www.example.com" r (n 0 s 0 v 0 l 0 oa 0 ob 0 oc 0 od 0 oe 0 of 0 og 0 oh 0 c 0))' />
Your labels will be different, as the above asserts completely child friendly content, which adult content is not.

No pre-approval system yet..Im hoping for a better solution so I won't have to approve every photo that gets posted. Is that how most sites do it? How do other personals sites do it?

I do have a warning when they sign up that you must be 18 years old or older.

The PICS label in your pages would still be advisable. Not to mention you might get an IBL from them, to boot. Registration is free. Declare the type of content and they generate a label. Add it to your page templates and you're done.

Notice there is a declaration for both ://domain.com and ://www.domain.com. If your .htaccess is redirecting non-www, then keep the valid url and drop the other.
