Default Technovelgy.com - where science meets fiction

Please take a look at my new site

http://www.technovelgy.com - where science meets fiction.

I'd appreciate comments on overall design, appearance and navigation, as well as any comments that you would care to make about the content.

I'd be glad to reciprocate with a look at your site; just ask!

Thanks again, everyone.

That was cool. I find it interesting to know stuff like that. I had no trouble navigating through your site. One pic didn't want to come up originally, but it came up later, after I came back to the home page. Don't ask, I forgot title. The first book cover on the left. There may be a bit too much white on the pages. And I, personally would like something I could download to read at home. But that is just me. Others may not feel the same way. Besides, if I really want it that bad, I can always right click it. But I did find it interesting. Good site. Different.

Default Site Review

Interesting content! I presume you read allot, huh? You know this stuff has puzzled me for years, do inventors truly read about these amazing gadgets and work diligently for decades to create something that was a figment of an author's imagination. And, if so, and nothing of that nature ever truly existed, how and why, did the author conceive the idea of such to begin with, when so many are so complex? It's as if they've been in the future or something, which seems almost to lend credibility to time machines, does it not?

Only place I could fault the site is in layout of your navigation. Rather than have the description in on page text, wrapping in a narrow column on your page, why not run your description behind a cleaner more simplified link as a <title>, so that the description pops up on mouseover. This would also afford handicap accessibility, while cleaning the links on your page up. And, it would free up enough room to move your "Lists" links over with "Featured and "More Categories" where it should rightfully be. In example for a rental properties page on my site ~

<a title="Need a place to sleep?" target="_top" href="rooms.htm>Rooms For Rent</a>

I was likewise intrigued by your logo, in that your site is about inventions inspired by science fiction, or fictional "technology", yet you use the Honey Comb, one of the strongest structures known to man, however one of the oldest and simplest forms of such structures; designed purely by nature. The irony is befitting of the site. Should you be interested in trying to carry that effect farther yet, see the background at www.thomashoney.com you might find it lends an interesting twist to the remainder of the page.

Default Thanks for your comments!

Yeah, I do read a lot (or I did before I had kids!). One thing that worries me is that I know most people aren't bookworms like me; do I need more pictures or graphics to spice it up?

I just did a redesign to bring content up a little. I still need to take advantage of the mouse over title, which is a really good idea.

Thanks for noticing my logo! Sometimes I do think that nature is the best engineer and designer.

I'm also mulling over the idea of creating a more printable kind of page; so that's an idea too.

Your comments are great! I'd appreciate any more that people might have.

Default Logo

Had to notice the logo! URL offered above for Thomas Honey site, is the family business. Dad's been keeping bees since I was in diapers, which I'm 45 now, so that's a long time!! Been squeezin' bees off and on all my life, the honeycomb logo just sort of reached out and grabbed me. Not to mention it is nicely done.

One can have loads of fun on those titles for the links, when you get started there. The description doesn't always have to be dry and serious you know. Throw a few one liners in there someplace to make your viewers crack a smile.

Glad to offer the advice, hope it helps.

Default I did some redesigning

I did some redesigning to bring the ad links up on the left and right columns; I also redid and simplified the navigation.

One real problem I'm having is trying to create a short text statement that introduces the site. Any suggestions?

Thanks again everyone!

Wow, what a time to find out you're claustraphobic! Excuse me...I feel a bit weak...

Ah, that's better.

This is a great idea for a site. However, it's not all that..yet. The main thing, and the most glaring thing about the site, is that it is too crowded! Words here, words there, links, logo, space...closing...in....!

In all seriousness, a little visual seperation of some kind is in order on your site. The only thing that seperates the different elements of your site is small amounts of white space. Put some borders up, seperate your menu links from your main body better, and DON'T let normal text supercede your logo on both sides. Simplicity is good, but even Drudge puts up some seperators.

Default Thanks and thanks!

Chadster -

Thank you for your frank comment; my problem is that I really only see the words, being a "word guy" myself. So, I've added colors as separators; I'm still fooling around with the actual spacing.

So - better?

Beautiful! Great job! That's one of the best designs I've seen! Don't fret too much about the old problem. It's a great site, great content, and now, a great design.
