Hi all.
We really need help for our site. We need some feedback and suggestions on how to improve it.
Also would you purchase something from it? (if you were surfing by)

http://www.skylinetechusa.com

Thanks

your site looks good... however, there are popups galore... which annoy me and, I'm sure, a lot of other people... you should get rid of them

you need more text on your index page... you need to tell your visitors who and what you are.

you do not have any physical info, such as address, phone number, etc... this information lends credibility to a site, especially since you are asking people to give you money.

You should use a more readable, professional font.. such as Verdan or Arial and use it throughout your entire site.

your tab for your home page should read "home" and not welcome and it should be accessible on every page in your site... many people are not aware that you can click on the logo to return home... don't make it difficult for your visitor to navigate your site... it will only be an incentive for them to leave your site.

Would I buy from your site? not w/o some better info from you...and, are you offering any kind of warranty? Without that info, I would prefer going to a physical store to buy those kinds of products.

you have a good start... just a few minor changes and it will be better.
Hope this helps....

Good Luck!

No. There's no unique advantage to this site that I won't get from the next one, or ten, or forty-five.

So what's to be done? I would add, in addition to the configurator, some way to compare between at least two models. This provide an absolute minimum of context. Information.

If you want to see the real deal, where I'd go to buy, check this site out. The layout, simplistic and "primitive" technically, is years ahead on content and information context. Figure out the entire package and you won't just get visitors -- you'll get publicity. That's the advantage of design driven (not code, not cute) sites.

We have a side by side comparison where you can compare up to four items.

This is more like what I have in mind. I tried to figure out how to get this result (as you would for a user test - compare four models in the price range $x)

...Only one problem. I could not figure out how to get four models up to compare them. I found the multi part compare section. I entered into the first box "Camera" and in the second box $350. And here's the results page with that criterion.

Sit a user (or twenty) down. Ask them to accomplish a set of likely tasks, from selection, comparison, to complete purchase. Put them up against your Configurator's "ease of use." ...Get a surprise. Take as long as you want explaining "...if users understood the 'trick.'" Come to the realization, if there's a 'trick' you have to explain, it isn't useable. Redesign. Retest.

Further, the link I gave was very different in another way. Results turn up a page of eight photo examples: Test box, Indoors, outdoors, outdoors with flash, detail, and so on. This is excellent on the basis of context and user objectives.

That is truly a fantastic app.... good find.... I will spend copious amounts of time checking out the cameras before I purchase one - that is for sure. 

About Skyline Technologies:

IMHO, never apologize for NOT offering the best customer service in the past or ever. New users will automatically think there may be persistent problems with your system and the first thing that runs through their minds is the last time they got burned on the Internet - whether or not you have gone to great lengths to explain how you are "new & improved"

The key here is.... If it was truly new and improved, and WAS more usable, then it would speak for itself and no written encouragement would be necessary. The space would be better used displaying product and invitations to purchase.

The site usability is good overall and is quite easy to look at, but a solid, professional logo, and some minor changes in graphics and balance would make a significant difference to the stickability and conversion ratio.

Your logo is touching the top of the page and gives the impression of "pressure". There are many psychological signals that trigger a user's mistrust. Graphics play a large part in getting people to respond emotionally, subtly persuading them to either trust, or mistrust the system that is offering them goods. A professionally designed and comfortably set logo exudes trust and customer service. A short tagline can replace all the convincing you are wasting the space on currently.

I would more likely buy from you if you made these adjustments and so would most other fickle shopping cart droppers out there....LOL!... 86% on average... and that's on a site that's really doing well.

I think you have done some good work there and it really needs very little to complete the circle.

Cheers,

Chris. :)
