Wink The Daily Savings - Please Check it out

Hello,

Could you please take a look at my new project which is a unique web site and please provide your feedback? I would like you to take a look at a couple of pages; the main page The Daily Savings - Save More | Save Now and the top deals page The Daily Savings - Top Deals

Primarly, the technologies that i have used to make this site are Photoshop for graphics, Javascript using Jquery library, Ajax, php for server side scripting, XML, and MySQL DB to store data related to deals.

I am also working on an elaborate feature enhancement that I plan to release on Feb 15th.

I know some people may not like the horizontal navigation at first but I highly recommend that you give it a shot and try using the navigation control at the bottom of the page which makes it all come together. Alternately, you can also use your mouse scroll to go right or left. I sincerely hope that everyone likes it. Please let me know your thoughts and suggestions on the design of the website as well as your overall experience.

Thank you so much!

Regards,
Azam

Different.

It took me a minute to figure out the navigation.

I can only comment in what it appears like in Firefox for me.
Not happy that i can not view in IE7 and have to upgrade to Google Chrome in order to view the site.

Firefox view for me has a few formating issues (under your logo and under account login) Should be easy enough to correct.

I do like the look of the graphics, but with that said, the main links (ones I mentioned before that have the formatting issues,) tend to blend into the site and are not easily seen. Not too sure how you can address this at the moment.

The add to Fav's section in the tranparent horizontal burnt / ripped paper are grouped so tight together that you can only select 2.

The Registration formating also has some issues. The signup boxes are not showing up on the registration box. They are showing up just off to the right.

I do like the site and probably will check back to see future updates and if you have more product offers as the site grows.

The Hack,

Thank you very much for visiting and providing your feedback.

I have spent many hours trying to fix the IE issues and were extremely painful for me realizing that I am not able to fix them at this time. But I did not want to leave the IE users out so I created the The Daily Savings - Top Deals which is a default page for the IE users. I know it is not the best solution but it is a workaround for the time being.

I do have a few questions as I don't exactly see what you are referring to

"The add to Fav's section in the tranparent horizontal burnt / ripped paper are grouped so tight together that you can only select 2."

Can you please elaborate what you mean by that?

Also, I don't see any formatting issues in FF at my end for the registration, could you ask you to please email me a screen print of what you are seeing so i can fix it? I would greatly appreciate that.

I am really glad to hear that you will come back and visit. Thank you so much!!!

Regards,
HolyInsomniac

Turning off over 50% of potential visitors from the start is the first problem. It is tough to review something you can't view. It should be easy enough to add some static pages with links for About Us, etc. pages so at least IE users can figure out what it is about and how to use the site.

Okay, now I'll put on my FF hat. Since I do have both browsers. :O) First, the page does seem to take a while to load. Second, a search feature would be nice. Thrid, you may want to consider making the picture for each item and/or price clickable.

The horizontal navigation seems kind of neat and unique, but certainly not what most people are use to.

The Index section needs adjustments. The word "Index" seems to be overlapping the items and causing formatting issues. The About TDS and Add to Favs need to be lowered a bit. The Logo is riding on top of them.

ChrisJumbo,

Appreciate the review, I know what you mean by not having full IE support. It is like a splinter in my skin and annoys the hell out of me. I will make it fully IE compatible one day. I also agree with you regarding the About us page for the IE users, this is something i totally overlooked and I am glad you mentioned it, I will make an about page and an intuitive How-to for the site.

Search feature is coming soon along with other feature enhancements, hoping to have the next release on Feb 15th. I can move the about us links and the other links down a bit to resolve the overlapping. Strange but I still don't see that. But I will take your word for it and push them down a little.

Once again, thank you for visiting and providing your valuable feedback.

Regards,
HolyInsomniac

Ok, I need to update my Firefox at work. On FF 3.0.5 the layout issues are no more. Everything looks better on my home machine.

Which version of Firefox are you using at work? btw, I did make some changes as you suggested so it may just look on your work computer now as well.

FF 1.5.7 at work.

I also checked it at home on Oprea 9.63 and it looks great. I must take back my earlier comment about the formating issue as it may have been due to the older browser, but the IE comment still applies. I hope you get that figured out so as not to limit your site.

Best of luck to you.

Hi...I'm running IE6...

1) I love the Ajax effect...wish I new how to do that
2) the top.php page contents are not centered; so I don't see the right arrow until I scroll right (15% or so)
3) I like the background graphics, but you need better quality pictures
4) Your copyright text and product text (lower-right corner) are fighting for the same space
5) the main page takes a while to load...and just as long or longer to load on subsequent loads...not sure what's happening there...
6) I agree you need additional pages for the non-FF, non-IE7 users (about us, contact us, etc)
7) You have a lot of javascript within the top.php page; I'm sure others will suggest placing them in external files
There's not much page content to help you with SEs...what are you about? What are you offering? What makes you better than others?
9) finally, and probably most important...I'm not sure if I like the idea of a web page of products serving as a launch pad for other websites

Good Luck!

Getmea,

Thanks for the review, what screen resolution do you have? i think this is something I need to fix because I designed the site for 1280x768 resolution. i know I cannot be specific to that.

The top.php page shouldn't be taking long to open, are you on fast connection? I will be externalizing a lot of javascript in the next release as I perform some cleanup of the code.

The idea of the site is actually pretty old, it is based on affiliate marketing, just another way to make some extra money. The most famous site of this type of slickdeals. it is a pretty neat concept and serves well with good traffic.

i will be creating some other essential pages for IE users such as about and contact us as well. Thank you so much for your valuable feedback!

HolyInsomniac:

correction: I'm running IE7 (sorry!)

I was using my ancient Toshiba laptop (1024x768, full screen) via wireless to my Comcast cablemodem (6 MB, I think). It took around 10 seconds to load. I switched to my desktop (1268 x 768, wide, full screen) hardwired to the modem and it still took ~ 8 seconds initial load...6 seconds subsequent load. With the desktop, 1/3 of the right arrow was not in view in full screen mode.

I tried some affiliate marketing as well, but got no where. I was tied to their "look and feel".
