Default Silicone Wristbands

I started playing around with the silicone wristbands as an affiliate about the middle of last year. As we head into what will soon be our first year in the business I wanted to see what changes we could make on the blog.

Silicone Wristbands

Thanks for any help you can give.

It's set up as a blog and I wanted to use it to feed the search engines. I've got 5 call to actions above the fold and was hoping no one got below the fold.

I always look below the fold. . If you wanted me to 'answer the call' then you would need to stump me.
(where do I go from here) I did keep scrolling until I got to the bottom of the page, I did initially wonder why the page was not broken into smaller pages.

Janeth only you know if users answer the call. . I really do hate looking at websites without knowing what other users do, no feedback on what is working and what is not. (you get the feedback)

I do fully realise Janeth that you do seem to have the knack of getting results. But you seem to tap into a user psychology that I do not really understand. Feeding the search engines and Selling on the same page? . . I love you Janeth, but I would never tackle you you seem to be able to bite from both ends at the same time..

My bolding.

Two proposals (that I may have used on my own blog if I had time to blog ) :
  1. Look how Chris Pederick uses social media sites on his blog. Scroll to the bottom: chrispederick.com
  2. See how Simon Willison use OpenId to log into his blog: Simon Willison?s Weblog Reduces spam and make the Blog pr...
  3. Read more about the OpenID DigitalStart.net: The starting point for English speaking surfers and webmasters

Maybe the reason is simple. She should stop using WPW for self promotion. 2009 begins here.

David I don't fully agree. In a sense, a link to a site submitted for review is always a form of selfpromotion .

The third link in my post can also be regarded as self promotion.

Is the link semantic (relevant)?

For me, it is too long. Above the fold the site is clear but below it is far too much info for me... from a visitors perspective.

I think I'd tend to use snippets for the posts themselves (read more...). This would highlight the post titles and the important first few sentances or paragraph. It would be far easier for me to follow.

It just seems to me to be an information overload.

I can change it to snippets however, in the past when I first started seeing blogs using snippets I was a bit confused. It took me awhile to get use to them.

The crowd I’m targeting is not internet savvy marketing people and I have to wonder if they want get confused by the snippets.

But I can test it out and see what happens.

I just never thought people went that far into the page.

Guess I was wrong.

Well only you can answer as far as the "success" of the site. If you're hoping that folks don't stray too far below the fold then whether or not the entire post is there or a snippet wouldn't matter that much.

Out of curiosity, are you able to put unique call to action links below the fold? If so, you'd be able to better track which links are being followed.

I've changed it already but yes, I can set up another affiliate account just for that. However, changing to the snips I lose the call to action below the fold.

Then at this point what I'd suggest you consider is simply placing some prominent call to action links (unique to the page) below the fold and not change what's been working so far.

You can monitor and see if you're getting traffic below the fold that's converting. If so, then perhaps some minor tweaks to see if the conversions increase. If not, then you might want to make some more extensive changes to raise conversions.

Did you look at the site with the changes?

I wish there was a way of knowing what works best without the testing. (;

Wonder if anyone has tested this already, but then I guess the test would have to be in the same industry to really know rather it will work.

I think I like the snippets better.

What I'd suggest is a new and smaller graphic (actual product?) for your call to action that you could add to top and side of each post. I would probably alternate alignment right then left for successive posts. You can take a quick peek at the blog in my signature to see what I mean.

You're not using snippets?

Sure I am. Depends on the length of the post. Also, it's a straight up blog and not a combination of blog/commerce. Also, I'm only displaying the most recent 10 posts whereas you are at 15.

That would be one way since your posts are longer but not neccessarily better. You'd have to try and see. You could always show the newest post in its entirety and make the rest snippets also.

David ? . . We seem to have caught you in an unusually sour mood today.

We all use WPW for promotion. . Not so many back up our postings to the bitter end, Janeth will answer every post, criticism, and clarify every query. she always does. Janeth has always been an excellent education tool..

She is a unique personality - Janeth does have the knack of biting from both ends.
She can promote a site on wpw - at the same time educate and inform WPW users
she can feed search engines - at the same time sell on the same page.

That's nifty...

There is no such thing as truth Janeth. nobody should ever seek it, believe it, or accept it. We should merely glean out the little bits of information that make us content, or serve our purpose. .

some self promotion - I am up late tonight creating my new blog
Introducing Tubby

I already went to Davids forum and posted it there. the Blog does have a link to WPW, it is probably about time I included one somewhere on one of my sites.

I will upload the original (full photograph) that will link to the image in the blog.
just so nobody else tell me I am blurry again.

Done - (big image though)

Yes . . Adding a personality is always worth a try. Most users find a real observable person less scary. Easier to submit some minor problem to, Far easier to Yes! to a person you can imagine, than it is to say yes to a corporate image.

Personality is vastly underused.

David ? .

No I was in a good mood. Just plain and simply fed up by an experienced SEO poster submitting yet another thread on needing help. Janeth has been here longer than me, do I ask for help???

Janeth has made dozens and dozens of 'review my site please' and the keyword of the thread is always the anchor text. She has admitted that she uses WPW for self promotion. And I for one am getting a little tired of it.

I have had some flack over this, so just to make my point

Landing Page Identicle Site - And the keywords are spammed. Run it by www.sitereportcard.com

okay, this design is new, check the way back machine or just act a little smart and read what is being said too change in those reviews.

If I change my design I have every right to ask for another review.

If you don't like it ban me.

I’m really surprised that WPW would keep someone like you on as a mod.

It’s sad that a moderator feels that because I ask for a site review that in some way that is self promotional.

You gave me some red and claimed that it was because I had asked for the site review for the same site.

I’d like to know how I did that because the design on the site is brand new. As a matter of fact we made some last minute changes to the site last night.

The design on the site is new!!!!

I’m trying to make the site better and in no way I’m I trying to sale wristbands to WPW members.

I make a killing with this site as well as many other sites I own.

The amount of traffic I get from WPW is less than the amount I get when I make a blog post. And the traffic from the blog post is targeted for the site, unlike the traffic I get from WPW.

For a moderator to be so lame as to think I’ll make one cent from this post is really sad.

The best way to kill a forum, let a dumb ass be a mod.

"I think I'd tend to use snippets for the posts themselves"

I think Dave's posts on their own made the entire thread a positive contribution.

So the thread was never a waste of space.

How about showing us the dozens and dozens of reviews where the keyword is the anchor text?

Or even the dozens and dozens of reviews or even a dozen reviews. YOU ARE A LIAR.

And the fact that you just told a lie that you cannot back up proves that you are a liar.

Self promotional would be all the emails you sent out to me and other members of this forum asking them to join your forum.

As a matter of fact you were even going to make me a moderator.

That is self promotional, spamming and just wrong.

Let's not put the post back on topic. You worked so hard to take it off topic.

And what tag is that?

And where are all the review me with the anchor text my keyword?

Two things... First you need a "read more" type link at the end of the snippets. Right now the bracketed ... is not clickable.

As far as doing it, should be easy enough to make your new post and then edit the previous one to a snippet.

I'll take care of the read more now and I'm also thinking about adding some text above the post that would always stay the same.

Would that be better than showing the last post?

Again Janeth, not neccessarily. Everything above the fold looks fine to me. Below the fold, based upon what you've been saying, seems to be working OK... or at the least not doing you a lot of harm.

I'd be inclined to make some of the changes, watch and see, and then adjust from there. The posts as I read them, seem just fine. Their titles are well targeted. Not so sure I'd move that down further. The snippets combined with the entire latest post "should" give you plenty of text IMO.

I'd use the unique link on the call to action for the latest post only. This would help to give you some idea if it's being followed and converting, and use your current links on everything else.

Okay, the owner of the wristband site wants the design the same as what we are using. As soon as the guys finish setting that up I'm going to have them make the changes to my site.

Having seen and reviewed the quite different design and content on this domain the first time around, I can attest to the many improvements (some to detriment of usability, but reasons why are clear) on this site.

Couple of thoughts. I see no meta description tag. The keywords tag is dangerously stuffed. Yes it will pull a tiny bit, but not nearly enough IMO to risk what is otherwise a highly optimized but not "over the edge" site/page.

Top navigation seems too bulky, but maybe older eyes will appreciate the oversizing. Surprised to not see as many nofollow tags as I'd have expected, in several areas, to include probable multi-home URIs for new blog entries.

Main text content, home page, "LIVESRONG" is misspelled. There's a line break that caught my eye after "segmented and swirl" in the first main paragraph. A few instances of bold or italics may help break-up the text wall in that general area.

Another minor error: "bracelets. such steel moulds"

Alliteration of "cheap choice" rings odd, might be a keyword with "cheap" but from a buy-psych standpoint I think "inexpensive" or "affordable" does more for your visitors. Filler text such as "certainly" is a sin I commit all the time - if you are not padding for density, I'd drop that, then drop the second use of "moreover" - as a final push to action, the final sentence seems to be relatively weak:

"There are certainly hundreds of styles and colors that you can select in order to create the bracelet of your predilection." versus "Designing a fully custom bracelet from hundreds of colors and styles is creative, fun, and gives you the ability to create an entirely unique accessory to your fit your promotional or fashion needs!"

That rewrite of mine is flawed, but hope it delivers the general idea.

I like the carbon fiber revamp of the buttons, but it may be worth looking at rubbery or glossy overlays given the product theme. White space is nicely used considering how much content is here, but the site hits me as being two dimensional, a feeling that an additional shadow or bevel may overcome.

On a personal note, I've been "out" for a variety of reasons, health the primary, and will remain so against my wishes for the foreseeable future. I don't have much fight in me, so I should listen to Kgun, but oh well.

I thought it worth posting to encourage an experienced SEO, like Janeth, to continue to recognize that neither she, nor any of us, are perfect; nor is any site or design immune from improvement. It would be a shame to react with anything but support, respect, and appreciation to an open mind and shared experience.

There are too few people in our industry with the enviable blend of confidence and humility to risk such clear and intimate details of their core business under any circumstance, leave alone a peer review. I cannot recall the last time I saw affiliation metrics, the domain, the code, and the strategy laid out so publicly by anyone approaching this level of success.

Kindly pardon me while click on Janeth's reputation scales.

Hope to see you all soon - and perhaps more often in the future.

Thanks, although others will disagree even with a screen shot of the first design in the other thread.

I set wordpress up to do this with one of their plug-ins. Guess I need to change it.

I've got a guy hear writing the content and English is not his first language. The hope is that they convert before getting to the text but it is something that needs to be worked on.

I really hate to hear about the health problems, is there anything I can do to help?

You’ve helped me out a lot in the past and I owe you for that and I’ve learned a lot from past reviews you’ve given me.
