I would appreciate it if the forum members would review my web site.
The site url is the-savvy-Woman DotCom It is a simple liquid, CSS based design. It is meant to be easy to navigate and read (I hope). I would greatly appreciate your input. P.S. I am not a webdesigner by trade... BTW, I did perform the tests that were suggested at the beginning of the forum, the results are listed below: Site Report card ---------------------- Summary Results for THE-SAVVY-WOMAN DotCom Site Title: Practical Information for Life | Online Resource for Women | Savvy Woman Site URL: THE-SAVVY-WOMAN DotCom Date: December 22, 2008, 4:45 pm Overall Rating: 7.67/10 Details Rating Summary Link Check 10/10 Broken links: 0 HTML Check 9/10 HTML Errors: 0, warnings: 10 Load Time Check 1/10 Load Time: 350.10 seconds 9 Meta Tag Check 8/10 Meta Tag Warnings: 1 Spell Check 10/10 Possible Misspellings: 25 Keyword Check 8/10 Total words: 853 W3C validation ---------------------------------- Congratulations The document located at THE-SAVVY-WOMAN DotCom was successfully checked as XHTML 1.0 Transitional. This means that the resource in question identified itself as "XHTML 1.0 Transitional" and that we successfully performed a formal validation using an SGML, HTML5 and/or XML Parser(s) (depending on the markup language used). |

I think the menu looks out of place being located at the top of the page above the branding bar. I also think you have too much information on your home page. It goes on and on...

Thanks for repying... With the menu above the branding, I was trying to capture a diffrent look. Initially we had it lower, but we felt it was too close to the side nav. But we will revisit the positioning.
We actually had two colums after the welcome box, but changed it. We will spend sometime looking at how we might lessen the amount of scroll-down... Once again thanks for your help... John The-Savvy-Woman DotCom JohnzPCHut DotCom CollegeTidbits DotCom |

I decided to trim the "More Articles" from the Home Page... We kind of like the top nav and will probably stick with it. Thanks for your help...

first impressions:
1. i like the color scheme 2. the imagery is good 3. I would move the top nav bar into the left side nav bar OR incorporate it into just below the header. 4. I would change the top margin to 0 to move the header to the very top of the page. 5. I'd add a SLOGAN to the header/site name -- seems like a lot of under utilized space. 6. i'd move the search thing to the top right (so it can be seen early on). it seems to me this is a kind of blog site geared toward woman? how do you keep women (or anyone) coming back? is there a news feed or a membership ? |
