Default Please review www.keimos.net

Hi All,
Can you please let me know what you think about this site.
Keimos Shop
It is not meant to be all singing, all dancing as I am just trying out some software and have not really spent much time being creative, so before I really start to tweak things your comments would be most welcome

Thanks all,
Keimos

I presume that you are targeting ONLY people from the UK as your phone is incomprehensible to anyone outside the UK.

The site itself is cool. From a navigation standpoint - excellent job - from the content aspect, once again excellent and the html code linking is super cool. BUT.... (There's always a but!) the site name is not topic related. So you need to create a page aimed specifically in what you are trying to promote. Think searcher.

Then you have to start a links campaign.

Nice site though

Hi ctabuk,

I realise that the site name, I presume you mean Keimos is not topic related, which I can accept but it could be argued on a diverse plane that Microsoft as a name has nothing to do with software or training it is just that because they are a big company they are perceived as such, however is the site title relevant? It would be nice to get an outside view.

You're looking pretty good here - one thing concerns me. I found this in an h1 tag on the homepage

<h1>Computer Training Courses - Distance Learning & Self Study</h1>

Perfectly right and says what your title tag says, but I can't see it anywhere on the page front end.
Has this been hidden using CSS, cause if so this needs sorting out desperately - search engines will
not like it if they identify hidden text.

If there's a referral fee in it I can probably pass business your way - we do onsite tailored courses
in the UK and already pass a bit of work on to some of the open classroom course guys out there.

Hi cbosleeds,

Did not realise that, thanks for pointing that out.

I am trying out this software IncomediaX5 Evolution, something I need to point out to them.

As for a referral fee etc, two way street, contact me via our main site keimos.co.uk all details are there.

Hi, put very simply, it is all about
1.What a searcher is looking for.
2. What results appear on page one or two of Google

Results are based on several factors - 1 The internal page rank of the landing page and who links to it as an authorive source. 2 Who it links to so as to define it as a totally searcher related site.
3. That the search made by a searcher provides them with a choice of sites so that they can compare services, pricing etc.

4 With all possible respect making a comparrison between yourselves and Microsoft is a little extreme. You need to do one thing and one thing only in SEO/SEM - Think Searcher.

The logo 'feels' weird. The 'Online Shop' is larger than the 'Keimos' logo itself and for me that just doesn't flow logically.

I like drop down menus, I don't like the rollover effect on the buttons themselves, but that's just my personal preference. Also, the drop down menus are actually 'transparent' you can see what I mean by putting your cursor on 'IT Courses'

Your e-mail does not completely match the website

@keimos.co.uk

versus keimos.net

I went through a checkout process so when you see order# 08108-1558

Total:£250.00GBP

its not real.

The shopping cart has ONE too many steps and then it dumps you into paypal.

I don't mind paypal as an option, I don't like it as the ONLY option....

I recommend getting a toll free (free phone I think you call it) and getting it in the logo so that it is visible in every page.

Hi Ctabuk,

I appreciate your comments but they are more SEO than site review.

Secondly, Microsoft was admittedly an extreme example but for instance how do Virgin, Christian Dior, Nivea, Amstrad, Joe Bloggs, Mr Smith relate to your argument.

External advertising because you yourself have come to associate those names with a product.

The other example, how many sites can call themselves ie Toyshop, the naswer is the 1st person who got there so all others can only have a variation.

I appreciate your comments but this is leading to an SEO thread, which is not what I am looking into at this moment.

Just the look and feel of the site!!

Thanks
keimos

Hi cw1865,

Thanks for your comments, GBP is valid for the UK as that is the target initially.

I do understand your comments about PayPal, try running a Merchant account otherwise. It is a couple of clicks to many unfortunately at this moment I cannot fund the quicker options offered by PayPal for a quick and seamless click through and you would not know that it was PayPal. (Used to be free but now costs.)

Regarding email, go to Keimos.co.uk and you will understand as the main site links into .net.

Really appreciate the comments about the drop downs and will look into playing around with them. What is it about the rollovers and transparency that irks you?

I understand about the Logo, am still or trying to be more creative about that one, so just went blatant because it is linked into the .co.uk site. Any suggestions? Will reduce the size as I know where you are coming from.

Toll Free? Do you know how much toll free costs to run in the UK?

Thanks for your comments, much appreciated

Keimos

Yes, of course, I was only noting that you might see a bogus order.

Actually just looking a little deeper. On this page:
Catalogue
You do not display the pound sign.

On this page here:
PC Repair / Support
you do display the pound sign.

Naturally displaying the pound sign (I think) is preferable. British visitors won't mind seeing it and American/Canadian/Irish ones will automatically know that pricing is in pounds.

I just don't care for the fact that the ONLY payment option is paypal. There should be a secure method on your site to accept Visa, Mastercard, Amex (or other credit cards that you think are popular enough in the UK to think about of course).

Of course there is a connection, so no big deal, just wanted to make sure you were aware of it because you could be pointing to an e-mail address that you typed out of habit but which are no longer monitoring. It would really stink if you were getting leads into the .co.uk address and you were monitoring the .net e-mail!

On the rollover itself. The color shades from lighter to darker as you go from left to right. At some point, in that color spectrum, the color matches the (yellow? mustard?) in the Keimos logo (which is good), but I don't like the fact that it is shaded from lighter to darker.

The transparency is problematic because if somebody is trying to focus on the drop down menu, their eye is invariably going to be drawn (at least somewhat), to the underlying text. The distraction, no matter how minor it might seem, should be eliminated.

Logos are difficult because whether people like them or not is inherently subjective. Notwithstanding there are a couple of objective things:
1. The tagline 'Targeting Your Training Needs' is a shade of blue that is a lighter shade of blue which is in your background. That is a poor contrast. On your other .co.uk site the background is a much darker blue (navy blue)
2. Let's say that the 'Keimos' in the logo is yellow, well, the 'Online Shop' is not only using larger font, but its also shifting color to orange AND its using a different font (or Keimos is italicized)

I have a UK Free Phone that rings my phone here in the US which costs $10.00 per month. Toll free numbers are highly recommended. Obviously you are in the best position to assess the cost/benefit.

Hi CW,

Thanks for the comments, So hard but appreciated

Have changed some stuff, but paypal is a software issue so cannot do much with that at the moment.

Have tweaked some stuff, what do you think. 0800 at the moment is not feasible.

Have also checked what people are looking for?!

In my 1280x1024 firefox and explorer the header text is cut off on the right so that it reads as,… ‘Computer Courses and Self Training Materi’

I also agree that the logo text could be a bit clearer and easier to read. The KEIMOS text and graphic looks great, it is the other text with it which needs to be clearer and easier to read.

The text ‘Targeting Your Training Needs’ is squooshed together. I realize the idea is to keep the logo squared and neat however the message should get across in a glance. Changing the color might help a bit however with the text so close together that may not be enough to make a difference. One consideration would be to shorten that line to read as ‘Targeting Training Needs’ with a little letter spacing.

The ‘IT Training services’ line may read easier if the color was not so bright against the background, a light grey would match the page border color and be easier to read against the blue. Also, the word ‘services’ is not capitalized IMO it should be.

I also noticed that the google ads offer your visitors links to places where there are free trial training materials. Do you offer anything in comparison? If so then you might make it an obvious option. If not then how do you compete with those ads?

On the pages where there are long text lines such as the Distance Learning/Self Study section, adding an image with-in the text could be a nice touch. The images added on the What You Get page is a great example of how the shorter lines make for much easier reading. If suitable images aren’t available then two columns would make for shorter lines. The Home page has lots of text however the way it is sectioned makes a very nice and easy to read presentation.

I also checked the code at The W3C Markup Validation Service ... nice work for STRICT coding, there were only a couple of minor errors. BTW, if you check the box for 'Show Outline' then it will give a reflection of how the <h1> through <h6> tags are being used but that outline will not show if there are errors found. I checked it manually and found that only the h1 was being used but I quess you will get to that when you tweak!

body {
