Default Please review my web host directory and ratings site

Looking for all feedback, but especially interested in how to increase the number of web host ratings that are given. Would like it to be like consumer reports for cars where real people rate their web host. Some have suggested removing the need to register, but I don't want to allow unscrupulous hosts to easily promote their own companies and rate their competition poorly. What would make you rate your web hosting company (besides cash or a chance to win a new car )?

The site is www.webhostingusers.com.

I cannot speak for everyone but as for me I never thought of giving any hosting provider I have used a good review. Why should I do this when isn't that what I'm paying them for?

On the other hand though.

I do shout it out loud when they screw up. And yes I hold grudges when someone else costs me money.

Example
I was with "eye-Power", you know who I mean, for over seven years and had three accounts with them. If anyone told me they sucked I would have argued with them. But then their support went to being on hold for over 2 hours, accounts started being hacked, and they updated Vdeck causing my site and email to go down. My site was down more then it was up. So I left them and posted on many forums what happened and had email and site down time reports to back me up. But the whole time I was with them I never posted a review about them and it never came to mind to.

What I trying to tell you is that I'm not sure if people do post good reviews for no reason. So yes I would have to agree that turning off the registration may be necessary to get any reviews, bias or otherwise. You may be better changing your site to a bitch report as a place for people to tell of issues that they have had with their host. With this you will also get people stating they are good.

Thoughts.
You may also want to reconsider what banner you fly at the top of your page.
That site has burned a lot of people.
And to be honest I would not use your site just because of that banner.
Lastly having a banner of that size appears that the site is biased towards that particular provider. If you must have an affiliate or resellers banner displayed on your site, may I recommend you have the banner rotate showing different providers and not just change per page refresh. It was coincidence that their banner happened to be showing when I landed on your page.

amxfan, thanks for your feedback. I have turned off the affiliate banners for now. Perhaps that will help some. I'm also thinking of putting in a banner to promote action. Sort of like: "help your fellow webmaster by rating your host". What are your thoughts on that? What other thoughts would promote some action?

I'm not sure if I would have removed the banners as that puts money in your pocket. I would have just made them rotate like every 20 sec or so.

A call to action isn't going to work if nobody sees it. You have to get them to your site first. Like you pointed out earlier, most hosting review sites are biased and in some cases fraudulent and don't give honest reviews of hosts. People know this, so the first thing you need to do is point out to the visitor that these are unbiased reviews. I think this is going to be your biggest challenge. More and more people are coming to forums like this one and asking about web hosting and different web hosting providers because it is more of a believable response if the response comes from a somewhat active member (the more posts a person has, usually the more trust they have). Also it tends to be more believable than a website that anybody could have posted to. So I am not sure if this site would be better done on a forum base.
I know I am not much help on this. That is because I do not know how I would promote that site if it was mine, but I do know that I personally don't believe anything that I read on any hosting review site, and I am not sure I ever will...no matter what site it is. I usually ask on forums like this one to get different peoples input. I signed up with HostGator not too long ago because many people on this forum said they were good and had no issues with them.
