Default My Website - Quality Flash Games (Please Review Changes)

Hi i welcome any comments, critisicms, ideas - game requests welcomed - be as honest as you can, im only new, it might show, but im interested in making my site as good as it can be - note that im trying to keep my site different from others in same genre, ive seen heaps of them, i only goto them to embed the best quality games, i dont want stuff on my site that slows the process of gamers getting to a game quick, ie, ad saturation, annoying popups, comments lol, whoever reads that, ratings etc, since the games i pick are only going to be ones that pass my extreme benchmark...

I use 000webhost to host my site free, and i think its the best, im open to comments about that too, also im busily submitting this url to many forums for backlinks, i appreaciate your interest thank you, i hope that i can take onboard all your constructive comments, please let me know if you did actually play a game there that caught your eye and suggest improvements that come to you off the top of your head

Please don't resize my window when I go to the site! One of my pet peeves is a site that changes my browser window for no real reason!

Just my $0.02

Cheers,
Niggles

A light background would appear to work better as many of the game screencaps are dark. Since you're using images, please let them click to the game, same as the text does.

Smile Re: Please Review My Website - Quality Flash Games

thanks heaps so far for the comments, i will definately make the images point to the games too, and does everyone have any comments about the browser automatically maximising, if its annoying i will remove the script for sure, but i would like a few more comments about that first thanks

i hope that i can get back to the design elements quickly as possible, i realise that all black is a bit of turn off sometimes when viewing a page, i felt that when you play the actual games though its a nice setting drawing focus directly to the game window, id love to get ideas on templates you think would better suit the site, keeping in mind im trying differ myself from the rest of them by remaining as simple as possible

also since id like post flash game reviews and information/stories about flash games and development, i would appreciate input as to websites that might share this information freely..

i will be checking in on comments all the time, and dont forget that if you have game requests please post them here too, as well as gaming sites you like alot and visit regularly, for my links page, im definately going to include screenshots of major gaming sites in there and post reviews and ratings, i would your opinions about that too

Lets build a site together we can all be proud of, that has only the stuff we want there and not the additional stuff that gets in the way

let me know your pet hates about visiting other flash games websties too, it all helps, and include any suggestions at all that you think would make this site worth visiting for more that just gaming too, that would be interesting to hear

hahaha, yea ok its gone, but hey while your there, what would you rate my game selection as to date, say out of 20, you know there are so many crap games out there, i really just want to make sure i am in a niche market by only housing quality games, thats the whole idea behind this site really, and to make the experience worth while, ie, people bookmark the site and return many times, cause they know they're favourite games are all there in one place easy to access.

you got any favourite games chiron

ps, soon as i get a minute free, i will remove that nasty nasty browser script haahaha, sorry to put you off, return again soon...

do you think you would bookmark my site if you were a flash game player?

I'm not much of a gamer, but sure, it seems fine, I tend not to bookmark very much personally. If you have analytics that let you see what gets played most often, shuffle the bottom half around to find new gems, and let the most-played bubble to the top?

id really like to have access to that kind of info, not sure how to go about yet, but yea, finding out hits on a page is one thing, but it displays that on the page, hence i dont want one on every page really, doesnt look professional, i will have to find out how those other gaming sites have top ranked games, via most played, if anyone has any idea where to find such script i would love to hear about it

Thought you may like a review from a gamer

First of all the design - it's waaay too dark. Games are fun! You need fun - bright, exciting colours!

If you use google analytics you just need to put a small amount of javascript in the page and you can ge the stats that way. You can also set up goals so you can get counts for people loading up games, going from one page to another etc.
Google Analytics

Games-wise where's the tetris, solitaire and mahjong? The classics! Glad to see sonic, mario and street fighter on there - cool stuff!

You want to add a comments system on there and bookmarking to get the visitors to interact

Then get your mates to submit it and share it on social networking sites like digg and stumbleupon to gets lots of traffic.

  1. Why do you host the site on a sub domain?
  2. Why do the code load so slowly?
  3. Interesting test: Google Safe Browsing diagnostic page for net84.net/

thanks so much for your input, im going to check out that google analytics straight away, i have majhong there, i suppose tetris would be cool, maybe some nice card games too, texas holdem would be cool, um im trying to find a bookmarking script that works, but the last one i tried had a javascript error, im not sure if there is something conflicting in the code or what, thats got me beat, yea well anyway i will experiemnet with some colour changes along the way too, but i would like to try and get a nice template cause its easier, i used clan templates to get this one, it seamed to fit the simple style i was looking for

anyhow thanks again for being thorough, if you come up with any more ideas please let me know, i will post here, as i make updates for further input, its my first website, so im keen to just get it right first go, ive read alot about indexing, and ive submitted it Digg but only got 3 viewers, some other social bookmarking sites have been good, still waiting to be indexed by google and yahoo, i use all the webmaster tools, got sitemap and robot txt, etc but nothing as yet. site has been up now for 7 days, and i have had 84 visitors from around the world, im pretty wrapped about that since its not even indexed yet.

im trying to explore back links etc too... sounds like another thread there lol

how many games do you think i can put on the main page in the format it is in??

im worried about page load time, for slower users, for me it just loads fairly instantly, im sure most USA and Canada and UK Japan etc would too, but im australian and dont want to count them out, i thought that maybe 100 per page wouldnt hurt too much, since it goes to cache when you goto a game and back to main anyway..

i need a top quality list of flash games online sites to put in my link page, when i start getting regular hits say when i hit 1000 and 20 a day, i should submit to them for link exchange, do you think thats a good idea? do you ever goto websites from one to another via their friends links etc..

My first advice would be to
  1. Change hoster.
  2. Move the site to a main domain.
  3. Improve code download.
Is net84.net your site?

hmm that was interesting, well i use a free webhost currently, its my first site and only been up for 7 days

was that search you did for my exact domain, or in part

Quality Flash Games

is me

.net84.net

is the extension i was automatically provided by the webhost

funny thing is i did a spider crawl of my site name, and there references to 3 unknown www. domain names

had me stumped, maybe its something to do with the free webhost, i know i havent done anything malicious, i promise

im trying hard to get all the feedback i can to make the site something truly special for gamers, that are impressed by its content and easy navigation,

pages loading slowly???

hmm not sure why that would be, i know the games are as fast as the server serving them, and as for the main page there is no script, besides the 2 google ads and the hit counter the rest is thumbnails i swear

i made the thumbnails as small in size as i could, each being an avg of 5 kb

please let me know more if you come across anything

Yeah SEO-wise its important that you have your own domain. So you want quality-flash-games.com or something like that. If you need any help with finding a suitable host just let me know and i'll try and help out.

You would be best to put the games into categories and then create a page for each category. That will improve loading times, make it easier to navigate and make it better for the search engines

i wont forget your game requests, i registered for google analytics and have pasted the script to every page, wating for them to tell me something interesting now, i think its going to work out better than hit counters, that seam to need to be displayed on a page in order to work which wasnt my thing, so excellent i should be able to sort page hits out now, and consider that to be a way of guaging popularity of a certain game, im learning how good is this hahaa

um i dont really want to pay for a domain name at this point, maybe if ad sense pays for it down the track,

hey you dont think i should put ads on every game page do you, i was hoping that people would find it refreshing to only see a few on the main pages but to leave the game to itself

i guess i need heaps of hits though to make adsense work its been a week and only have about 1.20 in adsense lol, i think that was some friends of mine too, checking the site out, i told them dont click em more than once, dont want to get google up my butt

You could get away with putting them on every page, just dont go over the top. There's also another one called widgetbucks that may fit in better with your games

im gonna rework the entire the site from the ground up, its only funcitonal in mozilla, ie has script errors for some reason, so yea im busy looking at templates now...finding one is bloody hard though, im using ClanTemplates Forums - Powered by vBulletin

clan templates, sorting out what would work best with little alteration, luckily the page names of games can stay the same, so wont effect google index wait time hopefully,

will keep posted here when i have totally reworked the main page for now, will take me a few days i reckon, even burning the midnight oil, alot of cutting and pasting etc

will try and do it with game categories straight up, and choose a brighter look, as for logo, yea thats another whole story, i could spend hours messing around and still not get anyway, need some inspiration, i tried googling , for images, game montage, but its useless

if anyone knows where to find some nice video game montages, let me know please i have a feeling that something like that would make a nice banner concept with site name in there somewhere

Yes do that, and may be develop your own games. Online gaming is big business, and while many other industries are declining the gaming industry is increasing.

Nice site and addictive!

Place the word "Play" in front of every game link.

Get a little lighter background.

Get some Introductory text as well.

As you expand your gaming database, get a navigation placed.

- A Tip: Sort the games according to their respective system/console and get in the navigation. People would find it more alluring when they browse through the top console names.

Get "ALT" text for Images with complete description.

If possible, get a brief 2 line intro of every game (mention console) and game type (action/strategy/sports etc)

I'm a game fan myself

Thank you

im taking notes lol, thanks for all the input i didnt even know about all this stuff
i reworked the site from the ground up and im keen to know what everyone thinks, i spent all night and today doing it, took an hour and half to finish the banner, just teadious work on finding appropriate images editing them and layering them in photoshop which i needed practice in anyway

i think everyone will find that its a big improvement, but i still want more comments and opinions of course, cause this site can really grow now under the current format its in, i wouldnt of been as motivated if it wasnt for these forums to keep me going

look forward to hearing from you soon, oh by the way i would love to build flash games oneday, i only know Visual Basic currently and of course a bit of Dreamweaver.

That is an exellent start. I don't know much about Flash, but think
  • Layers
  • Time lines
are very important. You can
  1. Drag
  2. Use math
to make motion. Tell me when you have games to sell online. I have a Norwegian site http://www.dinspillside.no/ with a Norwegian and Foreign subsite where I can sell them for you at a commision

Some Flash links:
Adobe - Flash CS3 Professional, Interactive Multimedia, Interactive Design

Learning @ Your Own Pace® - lynda.com (Some good Books there).

mm thanks for that, about the hitcounter, its actually a hit counter yes, but in my free webost - 000webhost

its actually a massive tracking tool, it shows me number of vistors page hits etc, but also where they come from the referral where they come from , their browser and resolution and lists my top referral sources _top 5 only..

i wouldnt mind making it invisible but im unsure if i can, mask it would be great, or just keep the tracking code without the image, hmm, well im asking around, maybe you will know a way to mask it, either way

thanks for looking at the site, i hope be adding more games all the time, if you play a few elsewhere, and want some on my site, just let me know, details are on the main page of the site, regarding game requests

thanks alot for the encouraging feedback, i hope you bookmark the site and play games there when your in the mood, remember if you find games on other sites you would highly recommend that i dont have there, fill in the game request form, and ill get right on it, i want the site to be interactive in that way, ensuring that users make it their own in time to come
