Default Business for Sale Landing Page

Please review my landing page. All comments welcome...

Selling a Business - Sell Businesses Australia

This page has been converting nicely for the last 12 months, however I feel as though it could do with a boost!

Regards

Would recommend CSS to identify a link with onhover action (underline, change color, something) and would remove all underlined blue text that is not a link.

Transparent GIF will help the "SOLD" and checkmark images blend better.

The call to action is pretty far down the page, and again due to link confusion, is not entirely clear. I'd "presume the sale" and have a clear "click here to place your ad" button or link at the top, replacing the rather low-key "Upload Your Business for Sale NOW!" with text more in the theme of "Begin Selling Your Business Now!" or whatever seems to most clearly and invitingly present the offer to a prospect. Check marks table seems a bit larger than is necessary?

Edit: Those 36kb images could probably be 5kb, doesn't matter much, but helpful if you are on a metered host or have prospects likely to be on anything but broadband.

Cheers.

Thanks Chiron,

I have made a few changes as suggested. Can you explain exactly what you meant in regards to my image of the sold sign?

Also, the information with the ticks next to them are a little larger than normal because I want this information to jump out at pootential customers so they know exactly what they are paying for. Should I change this?

Regards

I would not do anything that appears to be just for the search engines.

Like

Selling a Business
- Sell Your Business on Australia's Best Business for Sale Website!

It looks to be written for the search engines more than for the site visitor. It does not create a desire or cause me to want to continue reading.

There needs to be a call to action in the top right hand side of the page. I'd remove the sold sign and put a call to action there.

I'd make the site wider, very few people are using the screen size 800x600.

If it was me I'd change the header around to show exactly what it is that you are selling.

I always like to see a phone number in the header before I send someone my money. It's nice to know if there is a problem I can make a phone call and talk to someone about it.

Ok, I have changed my h1 tag. I will leave my screen size for the moment, as it is a big job to change at this point. There is a contact number at the bottom of the page, however I have now added 3 big call to action links including my business number.

I will also arrange for a call to action button to replace the 'sold' image. Can anyone here help me with thi grapgic?

Since Janeth has kindly noted she'll look at the call to action, this is merely for illustration purposes since you asked.

I grabbed the current "sold" image, painted the background a putrid lime green, set transparency to that, and as a result, it should "blend" instead of "show a white square" around the sign.

www artmage.com/sold.gif

(But I strongly agree with Janeth, so no use bothering to use this when you have a call to action instead).

Now I see what you mean. It does look much better than my current image, however as you mentioned, I'll wait for Janeth's 'call to action button'.

Thanks guys!

Hi there,

I thought I'd chime in and mention that I don't like your header image.

The opera house, map and text are all fine, but the eyeball just seems so generic and dated.

I think you could do much better than that, even if you just removed the eyeball and didn't replace it with anything.

On another note, it feels like your page is unnecessarily vertical in its organization, with a lot of whitespace that could be better used. Some whitespace is good, but having a tall column of white beside your table of checkmarks makes it feel barren.

I think that space would be a perfect place to bring some or all of your testimonials up from the bottom.

spiderbait, great idea about placing the testimonials on the white space next to the column. I will look into doing this ASAP.

In regards to my header, is there anyone out there interested in supplying me one, or can anyone reccommend a company to do this?

So far I have received some great advice in this thread. My page has already converted today as a result!!

Header image is not too tough - unless you're very new to graphical design, maybe try fotolia.com or istockphoto.com or (would need to read their commercial use rights, I have forgotten restrictions if any) compfight.com which is driven by Flickr.

All have decent searching, iStockphoto is probably the best in that regard, but also tends to cost more ($3-5 US for a medium to large banner size image).

Thanks Chiron, unfortunately I have zero experience with graphical design, and honestly, I'd rather pay someone to do it for. I just don't have the time to learn. Would you be interested in providing me with a new header design?

Janeth said she'd give that C2A a shot, so I'll take a peek at the banner. It's 5am and I'm not a graphical designer so buyer beware.

Good, happy knowing Amxfan can back me up when this version is voted totally sucktastic, lol.

Rebuilt versus trying to scrub the eye; now it's half the file size and twice as ugly.

May Amx and Janeth treat you better than I have!

Since Janeth is on the hunt, no use doing a banner if she's considering going new directions. I'll be around though.

Wow Janeth, that is really impressive! I love it!

Ok, to make things easy for me, I have incorporated the image and content to my existing page. I think this will work great and I love your opening title and content. It make me want to sign up!

I do like the header, but I feel it is a little too high. I love the Aussie flag and I would like to replace the image of the lady with me!!! I know, it sounds a little vain, but I would like to personalise it ia little more. I would like to replace the words BUSINESS TRADER (in header) with my url.

Could you make my header fit my current size page?

regards

Actually after some more thought, I don't want the picture of me in the header. I am happy with your design, but I would like it if you could accommodate the following:

* Make it fit my current page

* Replace the text in the middle with the following:

Buy & Sell Businesses (large)
Australian Business Classifieds
Businesses for Sale - Buy or Sell Australian Business for Sale

Cheers

Maybe it's not my place to say this, but I'm going to anyway.

I think you're running the risk of alienating the people who've been helping you. You're also undermining the goodwill that you've developed by changing your mind so completely.

If you don't like what people have generously created for you, that's one thing. But to give them specific instructions and requests and then ultimately turn around and ask them to do it over again from the beginning - well, in my opinion that's just rude and appears ungrateful.

Maybe Janeth doesn't feel this way, in which case I'll shut up now. But I just felt the need to comment.

Spiderbait, if you read my post previously you will see how appreciative I am. If Janeth or anyone else is willing to help me and offer be ideas and design suggestions, surely my input would help? What is the point of accepting someones ideas if I do not like it 100%? I'm not sure about you, but I don't just place banners, graphics, or seo suggestions on my site for the sake of it.

Janeth, if you feel as though you need to charge me for your suggestions, lets negotiate a quote and you can add the price on to my website that you are building for me.....

Spiderbait, after reading through this thread, your first post was constructive, the rest were a waste of time.

Janeth, if you feel as though you need to charge me for your suggestions, lets negotiate a quote and you can add the price on to my website that you are building for me.....

Spiderbait, after reading through this thread, your first post was constructive, the rest were a waste of time.

Regards

watto
I'm not going to flame you or suggest that your posts are a waste of time, because that's not my style. I don't believe in insulting people simply because they've hurt my feelings.
  • However, I've not been contradicted about my comment by anyone posting here other than you.
  • If you have a pre-existing business relationship where Janeth is being paid to do the work for you, then that puts an entirely different spin on things. Perhaps if that had been made clear it wouldn't have seemed as though you were looking a gift horse in the mouth.
At any rate, I'll keep your appreciativeness in mind for any future posts I might see relating to you.

Here's your "appreciation" in your previous 3 posts (I've bolded the appreciation so it can be read amid all of the requests for changes).

Could you make my header fit my current size page?

regards

Buy & Sell Businesses (large)
Australian Business Classifieds
Businesses for Sale - Buy or Sell Australian Business for Sale

spiderbait, this thread has nothing to do with Janeth's and my business relationship. Hence the reason we did not publisize it in this thread, until you threw in your 2 cents worth.

As I mentoned in my last post, my post you have highlighted in your last post are mearly suggestions to assist Janeth. After all, I did start this thread looking for people who are willing to help.

Any members who were not willing to help are obviously not participating.

Thanks again for your help Janeth. I am always telling you how appreciative I am of your help. If I was ungrateful as some people suggest, I'm sure you wouldn't assist me the way you do.

Regards

I'm not trying to charge you for anything however I do need to know the direction you're wanting to go before I get started.

And you're getting a little short with some people we are going to need help from once we get going.

Janeth, Don't I deserve the right to reply to spiderbait who accused me of not appreciating your help? I don't think I was being short.

I was only defending myself and explaining why I made suggestions to assist you. In fact, you even said in your last post that you need to know what direction I want to go in.....

Obviously my suggestion were giving you a direction. Yes?

Anyway, Just for the record I do appreciate your help and I never meant to come across in this thread as an ungrateful person.

Thanks for pointing that out spiderbait and taking this thread right off track....

Cheers

No, not short. I'd call it defensive and passive aggressive.

Every right in the world. But for every action there is a reaction.

It would be hard to find better help than spiderbait. If your serious about your site it's a good idea to watch the toes we step on.
