I thought people might be interested in having a look at a set of Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) websites. My clients think, and I personally think, that WSS is the greatest thing since sliced bread, since the time to market on anything you want to do is so incredibly short, and clients get real benefits from the collaboration features. Thsese sites are mine. I will let my clients put their own up for review when they want. The sites will be very slow because the server is being hit pretty hard at present since WSS generates a lot of interest. But as they say in the classics, patience is a virtue. WSS requires a total mindshift, so although all comments will be gratefully accepted, I am really keen for feedback and comments from others who have implemented WSS sites. <Mod edit to comply with Site Review Rule #1 - Masterpeace> |

First, thanks for the feedback. All feedback is good and greatly appreciated.
I think it is safe to say that the collaborative features and the rapid development afforded by WebParts, places WSS way beyond a content management system. Having developed several accepted development proposals for businesses, I still have great difficulty actually explaining WSS and relunctantly have fallen back on the 'try it and you will see' argument (which by the way, has so far succeeded for business clients). I found your comments on look and feel interesting. My experience lately is that users, at least business users, are tired of pretty sites, looking for the right button to push, etc and are looking for a totally consistent user interface. I guess for a personal site, anything goes. If you have a different experience for business users, I would be very interested in hearing more. For my sites and my clients sites, I stick with the 100% stock standard WSS user interface, which the business clients like and want. As for 800 x 600 and colours, that is all 100% stock standard out of the box WSS. Again I deliberately changed nothing, except for applying an out of the box theme. Even though I would like to go into creative mode at times, I am finding that business users are not interested. They just want the plain vanilla MS look and feel throughout all their sites. I would be really keen to hear from others with a different experience (either posts here or direct) as I am interested in anything that would give me a distinguishing competitive edge. Thanks. |
