Default Please review my new site - I need your opinion

All opinions are greatly appreciated. I have designed my own website - Self Defense Products Florida. Rather than designing it to look like a store, I decided to try and give it a more personalized touch and have added my picture and a little bit about me and my company. My question is, would you be turned off from buying from a website that does not look like a 'store' and continue on to other websites for your shopping with a more store appearance? Or, do you find the more personalized appearance 'warm' and would choose to shop on our site? Also, be honest and tell me if my picture wearing the scarf (no hair do to chemotherapy) is a turn off. I have other older pictures I can use, I just love this one with the dog in it. Thanks for your help everyone! Theresa

A little too much going on. Prefer a new header, left aligned text.

Thanks John..I do agree it is a little too busy..But what about the other question? Anyone want to jump in on this? You won't hurt my feelings...Be Honest...My question is, would you be turned off from buying from a website that does not look like a 'store' and continue on to other websites for your shopping with a more store appearance? Or, do you find the more personalized appearance 'warm' and would choose to shop on our site?

1. You title is more like keywords than a title.

2. Your keywords is far too long. 6 to 8 keywords is about right per page.

3. I did not see a !DOCTYPE . You should add this.

4. Do not link your home button to http://www.selfdefenseproductsflorida.com/index.html but link it to http://www.selfdefenseproductsflorida.com/ to prevent duplicate content issues.

5. You have a canonicalization issue as well that compounds your duplicate content issue. http://selfdefenseproductsflorida.com/ and http://www.selfdefenseproductsflorida.com/ are two different addresses as seen by search engines. You should 301 redirect one of them to the other.

6. You used images for your left nav links. Text links would have been better as they would have had anchor text. Your images also do not have titles or alt tags either.

7. Only accepting PayPal will cost you sales. Some people do not like or refuse to use PayPal. You have spent the money to create the site and you have spent the money to get the warehouse and fully stock it, you really need to spend the money and get a real gateway and merchant account. Not having a merchant account that only costs a couple hundred does not establish trustworthiness when you can drop a couple thousand and stock a warehouse.

Personally I thought the main page was too busy and it looked like you tried to put every link on the home page. Not having a breadcrumb trail made it hard to get back or know where I was on your site. The product selection was good, but I would have liked to have seen a click for larger image on some of your products.
The add to cart button was a little confusing as it was not in the same place for every product, sometimes it was off to the side while others it was underneath or next to another product. It felt like you were trying to add too many products to a page.

Re-reading through your original post, I looked again at your page. I really do not mean to come across as harsh. I really do not mean to offend anyone. I am trying to be straight forward and honest. With that said..
The picture of you on the main page I feel should not be there. Nor should the picture of the warehouse. These are taking up valuable real estate in your above the fold area. These are in no way related to the products you are selling. Personally people do not care what you look like, nor do they care what size warehouse you have. I believe these pictures belong on an 'About Us' page where they would be more relevant. Lastly, you show a picture of your 'fully stocked warehouse', but you state you will not ship to a PO Box address or outside the US where these products are not prohibited. Reading the statement 'we only ship to the US', the first thing that popped into my mind was that all these products are drop shipped. Showing the warehouse made me wonder, is that your warehouse and start questioning the trustworthiness of your site in general. If you need to make the statement that you only ship to the US, you should put a reason statement behind it (ex. due to countries laws / import and export regulations, we are unable to ship these products outside the US).

Again I apologize if I am coming across harsh. I do not mean to. I am just trying to be honest.

Search engines see these address as two unique URL's. With this they also see the exact same content on both URL's. The way to fix this is to 301 the index.html one to the other. This way they will only see the content on one page.

It may be better if you read matt cuffs article on this topic as he can explain it better then I can.
But in short, 301 the one you do not want to use to the one you do want to use.

If you need to know how to 301 a URL you can read this article from Wiki

If you have more question please do not hesitate to ask.

Default Please review my site-Google Webmaster see's things I cannot

Can someone help me please? This is driving me CRAZY! I am pulling out my hair, and as you can see from the picture on my website, I do not have any more hair to pull out

1. Google Webmaster tools is telling me that I have duplicate title tags and meta descriptions for the below. It is seeing a Taser-Gun.html which does exist, and seeing a Taser-Gun(without the html) which DOES NOT exist. I checked the page views and sitemap and cannot find the one that does not exist for the life of me.

2.) Webmaster tools is seeing URLS that do not exist - or, at least I cannot find them.
It see's .com/<b (no such url) and .com/Buy-<b (no such url) and .com/Taser.Gun (there is a Taser-Gun.html (it see's a period instead of a dash and is missing the html)
Thank you to anyone that can help me figure this out!

Pages with duplicate title tagsPagesBuy Taser C2! We are an authorized taser dealer. Check out our other taser products such as the M18,‎/Taser-Gun.html
‎/Taser-Gun‎
Pages with duplicate meta descriptionsPagesBuy Taser C2! We are an authorized taser dealer. Check out our other taser products such as the M18,‎/Taser-Gun.html‎

this page?

Buy Taser C2 - Tasers, MP3 Player Holster, X26C, M18, Tazer-SALE!

Yahoo also sees it
do a "site:http://www.selfdefenseproductsflorida.com/ Taser-Gun" on Yahoo 'without the quotes' and goto the last page. "make sure their is a space between the / and Taser-Gun"

Amxfan - I was hoping you would write back..So, Yahoo see's it too? It must be there somewhere.
Any clues as to how I could find it since I cannot find it in the sitemap or page view on the index page?? Or anyone????

It looks like you may have URL rewriting, which is taking an incomplete request for a file name (Taser-Gun) and serving the page content from the full file name (Taser-Gun.html).

So, it's not a page that actually exists, it's your server providing the same content with multiple URLs.

You can not find it on your site because it may not be there anymore or may have never been there. Google may have followed a link from another site to it.

The issue is ALL of your pages do this. Just remove the .html and try them.

This would have to be due to the server setup.

I have never seen this issue to be honest.
I did save your page and uploaded it to my server and tried it without the .html and I got a 404 error. This is why I'm saying it is a server setup issue.

Thank you Spiderbait
I think you hit the nail on the head.

Thank you Amxfan and Spiderbait. Google also shows this (I pasted in this forum earlier but it did not pick it up)....Isnt this the craziest thing? .com/<b and .com/Buy-<b and Taser.gun (it added a period instead of a dash)...This is from google webmaster too. I never had these errors, they just 'appeared'...Maybe they are links from other sites like Amxfan said??...I hope google does not penalize me thinking there are duplicate title tags, descriptions and uls and broken urls......Do you think google will penalize the site with this false info it is picking up?? Thanks everyone! I am glad I found you...URLDetailLast Calculated<SPAN class=urlItem>

You're welcome for the help.

Regarding the issue you mention of links that appear to contain html code, I see that sometimes too and when I'm able to track it down, it's always an external site that has pasted code improperly into their pages. Google follows it and gets a "not found".

If it's a one time thing and I can find the source, I'll get them to fix it. But more often than not I can't find the source, so I'll simply create a permanent redirect in my .htaccess to capture the broken link.

Hope this helps.
