Bad. Very bad.

I went to Search Engine Spider Simulator and got this for your homepage:

Not good at all. Google will not be indexing your site as you wish.

+ The site looks good, but does not have a lot of content.
- And, why constrain yourself to such a small percentage of my browser window?
+ The photos are very nice. Tempting taste treats.
- The Google maps link did not work for me. Something about different names.
- Put larger photos in the gallery. Make me want to visit. The tiny images just don't do that.

Overall I like the design. I think the logo takes up a little to much of the above fold area though I would suggest overlapping it over the photos below to push everything up a bit.

I agree with green8659. Your logo is a little to big and moves everything down the page. Also with the size it changes the focal point to the name away from the content of the site.

Idea.
Since you already have a eye catching flash file loading I would remove the name from above the main site. When the page loads after the flames have the name start out small in the center and "fly out" to a larger size. Then slide it to the upper left corner "while it is sliding shrink it so it still can be seen and not cover to much of the picture"

In doing this you will move all the content up removing any need to scroll.
You will also have the name as the center focal point of the site but then move out of the way of the content.

Just a idea.

@Dave

His home links are broken.
I think when you did the spider you used the 'Home' URL.
The one that works has a "b"
centurybarandgrill.com/indexb.htm
Once I plucked in that one it worked just fine on the spider.
Unless he has fixed something that is...

In addition to above, how do I and Google know the site owner's location? St John is mentioned just once on the home page - there are plenty of St Johns - in plenty of countries. I feel you need a strap line in the heading stating the location...

Design-wise I think it's very nice.

Couple of suggestions:

1) your photo-stacks couple be optimized more, they load quite slow

2) open up the menu - more space between dishes - and maybe even have the descriptions in lowercase and perhaps knocked-back a bit in colour (certainly everything ought to be consistent)

3) Gallery - have one pic loaded to start (also thumbs cover the healthy choices text - in Camino/Mac)

4) Lose the marching ants around links (unless total accessibility is important).

Good luck.

I like it, it made me hungry! One more suggestion .. in your gallery pics instead of pics of your restaurant, put pics of your dishes. You already show what the restaurant looks like in your logo, now you need to show what some of your most popular dishes look like. IMHO

This site is for a restaurant. What exactly would you suggest they use for content? I could think of a couple small things like reviews and maybe a featured dish, but nothing that would make a huge difference.

Aren't you viewing on a 24" widescreen or something like that? It fills up 85% of my screen @ 1024 width. Be realistic.

Anyways, I agree with amxfan about working your logo into the flash animation instead of it taking up a big chunk of space on top.

Other than that the site looks okay.

I was not clear in my statement. I think the width of 800 pixels is fine. My comment was directed at the: gallery, specials and location pages. They could show a lot more by expanding the height. For example: show all the photos on the gallery page as larger images and make the popups even larger.

My point is that I think the site needs to be more inviting. Suck me in and make want to eat there.

P.S. Of course I have a 24-inch, doesn't everyone?

ran_dizolph, don't feel too bad. In truth, Dave doesn't have a 24", he just trims the hedges around it so it looks bigger than it really is.

nope... but do dual 20" count?
The monitor I want...

Anyways

The pictures "especially the ones in the gallery" could be bigger. Maybe drop the thumb nails down under the photo stack "as they are covering some words anyways" and increase the size of the photo stack? You could also increase the size of the thumbnails a little then.
Dave does have a point here. It is a restaurant. People do not want to just read about it, they also want to see it.
