Hello nhbirdman;

I'm afraid I couldn't get past your Macromedia Flash download page. I did not stay there very long so maybe it would have (or at least should have) redirected me to the site without having to view the flash intro. I did not even have time to click on the 'Skip Intro' link.

By the way, I am using a new HP Pavilion computer, purchased in Nov 03 and am running XP Home. Not sure of the version of flash player though.

To your continued success;

Randy

Howdy!

You definitely need a way for people to skip your intro without having to load the flash movie, so have a simple 'skip intro' link below the movie.

Also, I didn't really have time to fully 'enjoy' the flash movie or read everything that was introduced to me, because almost as soon as the animation stopped, it went to the next page. Maybe put a link in the middle and have the horses keep moving?

I think it might be a good idea to center the text on your menus because the menu headers are centered themselves. It would make it easier to navigate, in my opinion.

Maybe make the text in the header "Erie Fire Assosciation No. 4" larger then the quote below it to make it stand out more?

Hope this helps! :D

There was a skip intro link...... unfortunately it was tiny and at the other end of the spectrum from the red. Not something the eye would notice quickly if at all. The fact that it is at the top of the page, instead of at the bottom where people are more inclinded to look, probably doesn't help much either. The good thing....... the flash intro was shorter then the load time of the personalized error page. Nice touch by the way, creative!

You know, fire engines are red for a reason, because they grab the eye's attention.......... and in most cultures represent danger. Online, staring at a red background on your monitor for any length of time.. is a quick way to get a headache. The only color that's worse is yellow. You have a yellow/red, yellow and...... peach combination? Interesting.

The "fire" images used on the top image looks like something taken off an old angelfire site or amateurs site.

There is a lot of professionalism in the site design, and a lot of "amateur" aspects to it as well.

If you'd darken the red background, use white instead of yellow, and go with a yellow/red orange the eye strain and mis-matched color could be solved. Either pull some real fire from the ashes or just jettison the flames and opt for a respectible unicolor for the top and bottom image......... professionalism wouldn't be just knocking on the door, he'd be burning it down ;) so to speak.

By golly there is a skip intro link! lol.

It kinda looks like the Nero Burning Rom flames. ;)

Anyways, I think it would be pretty cool if you had, instead of the flames, your little animated wagon goin at the top in a corner of the table you have right now.

In my personal opinion, I think that the red is just fine, because you do have a darker red in the background and the more prominent, full red, isn't show as much, nor is the yellow. But you could change that yellow, I think...

I agree with this assessment. Wenwilder's advice about the colors are spot on. My only recommendation is that you try some of her suggestions.

The Flash intro is needless, in my opinion. This site does not need it. Great content on the site. Let it stand on its on without the pretty tricks.

Do you think it would work to not have the intro entirely and put a portion of the intro (looping on itself) in the header Kingman?

I think it might look good, but maybe it would detract from the website or be distracting. It seems like it would fit in nicely, though.
