Default Desperate for help

A new website is not showing on my computer, The site is on my server/hosting and I can see it with the temp URL, however if I type in using the domain url it shows the old site (on another host) the name servers have been changed etc.. the client is telling me he and other people are seeing the new site and not the old one. the crazy thing is that yes I have refreshed the browser etc.. Yes I have removed all temp internet files. My daughter's laptop is even showing the old site. I have double checked with the client and he sent the correct URL for other people to look at and they also see the new site.

here is the URL in question Todd Dobrin for New York City Councilman of the 47th District
I need to know what you see, is there a blue background? do you see a picture of the coney island boardwalk at the top?

Thank you in advance for your help.

i do see the blue background and the boardwalk.

My company has had a similar problem... we sometimes see the old version of a site on our internal office network, but the rest of the world sees the new site.

The problem for us was that our office servers had cached DNS records and files. Since our office connects to the internet through our own hosting servers, the internal network computers saw the cached DNS stuff.

It's very possible you're experiencing the same thing. The way to fix it is to have the server clear it's cache.

There are a few reasons this happens. I'll address a couple:

If the name servers have been changed you must wait until the changes propagate. There are times a site appears to have Correct Name Servers and has propagated to certain parts of the globe but not others. Even when the change has successfully propagated to one of the Global Name Servers there are times you will still need to wait for the DNS server on your local ISP to catch up. The same can be true of an internal network caching DNS.

Globally, wait for propagation to the Global Name Servers. On the ISP side, wait for their DNS to catch up. Locally, flush your DNS cache.

If you are in a hurry (local machine) you can always edit your hosts file to point to the new address/
You may also encounter a data cache problem. Clear your cache, temp files, etc

Thanks for the advice.
I am having an issue with the propagation. I would expect it to be global by now since the nameservers were changed Monday. I have done everything to my system imagineable even replaced the index.dat file.
I will see if it changes tomorrow and look for something else that may cause this.
Please let me know if you think of anything else... it is driving me nuts.

I see a blue background and what I assume to be the Coney Island Boardwalk (never been there)

According to your whois data your registrar records were last updated on March 5, 2008. A DNS query shows the current IP address to be 69.65.27.210. If this data is correct please do the following:

Close all your browsers after completely clearing your history and files.

Then let's try the poor man's solution to DNS:

Go to: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc

Open your hosts file

Add this line:
69.65.27.210 dobrin2009.com

Save.

Open a Command Prompt.

Type: ipconfig /flushdns

Open your browser and try Todd Dobrin for New York City Councilman of the 47th District and and let me know how it goes.

Smile Re: Desperate for help

OMG, it worked!!! I had tried the flush command but I did not enter the host file. Thank you so much for the help. I would like to understand why that worked and why this but that is another day... I have over 40 sites and have never had this problem before. Thank you again.

I am very happy I could help. Someday you can repay the favor by adding some links to Country IP Blocks.

Good luck. Let me know if you need additional assistance.
