| Submit Your Site For Review Need a fresh set of eyeballs to take a look at your site? Have a specific issue or question about some aspect of your layout, design or interface? This is the forum for you. When submitting your site, be sure to discuss what aspect you are looking for input on. Just posting a link with the word 'review' isn't appropriate. |

I have been using computers since the seventies and have had a site since 1994. This site is now completely my design and content.

Running through your page. And to be honest that's what it was. I left with the feeling that the page was not made for me or visitors in general. It looks like you have hit a very common pitfall that a lot of other desingers fall into. And that being said, somehow you forgot about your visitors and put making money first.
This is why I say this. 1. You tried to stuff the title. 2. You get to 2 ads BEFORE you get to any content. 3. Your repetitive navigation that is of no help to visitors as it is 3/4 of the way down the page. 4. Your page has more ads then content. 5. Your visitor login is also ways down the page. 6. All of your content comes from blogs and although some blogs carry NEWS, this content is not news but more opinion. 7. Your page is poorly coded </script>urchinTracker(); // --></script><noscript></noscript>. And the <b> in your title. Looks more like a cut and paste than coding. 8. You forgot a meta description / keyword tag. Just for fun I went to Wal-Mart.com and I counted the number of products / ads they have for sale on their main page and there were 12. I did the same on your page. and you have 67, and that does NOT include the 4 empty ad boxes on the right. That alone speaks for itself. You're a NEWS blog / site remember? But you have more ads / products than Wal-Mart. My honest option is I'm glad you do not seem to know all that much about SEO or I feel the page would have been 'Made for search engines to make money by stray clicks from visitors". Sorry but you want honest opinions. |

Jeff,
I was turned off by stuffed title tag even before I visited your website. Downhill from there. Unlike amxfan, I did not see any adverts. Thanks be to AdBlock Plus. I did read your entire homepage page and still don't understand the purpose of the website. ,dave

just to clarify.
I did not see any pop-up ads. I was talking about the ad-sense ads and the ads by shopping ads. My blocker does not block them. Does yours Dave? if so I have to get it. |

I would get rid of the ShoppingAds or place them over to the side out of the way.
I read one of your post and you start talking about your PT Cruiser jump from there to birth day cards and from there to bills. Never finishing anything you started talking about. Your first post is about articles and the second about PT Cruisers. I'd try to focus the whole site on one topic. |

I spent 2 minutes on your site (after finding the link your posted link doesn't work). This is about 110 seconds longer than most visitors will stay and I still don't understand what the site is about - other than perhaps perhaps to try and make money from clickthroughs.
You need to think this through: 1) "Why would anyone come to my site - what will their advantage from a visit?" And most important of all 2) "How can I express that 'advantage' so that someone other than me understands it?"

Well, it's blatantly obvious that you're using Drupal as your CMS - I'd change your favicon to something more you and drop the drupal line logo bg.
As for what your site is about... I'm not entirely sure. Facts, no BS. Very good. But facts about what? Area 51, business, telecommunications? I don't know. If you could brand the site a bit better that would be good, although I may be missing the point... no candy coating? Is that in terms of the information you present or the style? If you're not going to have any graphics or colours then OK, but the site does look a bit bland, especially seeing as I see no colour and no graphics, nothing to please the eye above the fold. Your images are all lower down the page, maybe they should be seen earlier to stimulate interest/help users identify what the site is about? |
