I've had this site up and running since Sept 2007. It's been changed several times now. I've tried to get my friends and family to give me a review but all I get out of them is "looks good to me". I have no $ so I'm using the screw-up and fixit method of site development. I'm trying to get it right so I can make my first sale. I've had some clickthrough on the adsense stuff but nothing else. Thanks for looking.

I had a look. I might just represent the over 60 brigade so I probably would never visit the site without a request.
Words like "how I saved a ton of money" was an instant put off for me. your back button returned the same page I was on, I hate that. The page did not seriously try to sell me anything, it never had a concentrated message that pointed me in a single direction. I was not tempted at all. The page could have been used to inform me, or introduce me to something I could use. but it simply presumed I knew what the page was meant to be. I do not think I understood what the page was for. Selling stuff I never use and never understood? Definitely not targeted at me. or my generation in general..

My thoughts:
The site has some interesting elements, but here are some areas I would address. My eyes are drawn to the netflix ad. It pops out. The rest of the page just looks like a wall of blah blah. There is no eye path, no obvious place i should start and then proceed to next. The header lacks credibility. It appears to generic, the more customized , the more credidible IMO. I like 3 products in 3 columns. I think adding the cd under the Wii made it too crowded. The youtube bit seems distracting. So if it were my 3 columns I would do as follows: column 1-Eye catching picture related to Kindle. Caption underneath Attention getting headline Then 3 short paragraphs of content Call to action. Column 2 is similiar just do headline, picture caption content. Column 3 same as column one. |

Thanks for your input. I didn't even know I had a back button. where is it? I guess I'm having some trouble understanding what people are after when they go to a website. Content, content, content is what I've been hearing and reading about. So I made a lot of content. How do I find a balance? As you can tell I really don't know what I'm doing. I try to do what the "gurus" advise but I just seem to be going in circles. My problem with the header part is I don't know how to do that.
I am using mid phase as my host and use their templates. I've been studying HTML and have been able to do some things but their knowledge base seems to be written for advanced users and the posts in the forum are from 1972 or something. I'm afraid that I will do something wrong and loose everything I've worked on or get black listed or banned. I don't really know what that means but I don't want it. I've tried to use headlines that grab your attention. I guess it worked, only in a negative way. This probably isn't the best way to develop a website, but I am learning a lot, and one day I'll get it. I probably shouldn't say this but I copied the title of the Kindle story word for word from a blog. I wrote the article myself though. I thought it must be a great title because their were over 900 posts for that article. Oh well, back to the drawing board. |

I would change the home page. It is too busy and it took me a while to figure out what the purpose of the website was . Maybe design it so you do not have to use the bottom scroll bar to see the right hand side of the page. The shopping cart pages look good.

Most of the time it is in the upper left corner. Also, if for some ungodly reason your browser doesn't have one, hitting the backspace arrow on your keyboard also works. |
