Thumbs up Global Warming Site - GlobalWarmNow.com

Hi, im fuser from Global Warm Now ( Global Warming Now ). I wanted to make a site with a specific niche so i gave "Global Warming" a try. My idea is to put interesting articles for people to read. For the moment, the content is all taken from free articles sites but i also want to write articles myself.

What do you think about the template i chose?

What about the ad placement? You can see the placement varies..

Should i turn it into a blog or continue like this? A blog is much, much easier to publish content but i like being just simple html...

comments and suggestions are appreciated!

Thanks, fuser

Design isn't bad, but I think the text could use a little more leading.. seems tight and cramped. Also use some background image or color to separate your content from the Google ads.

First link I saw was about a book; I thought maybe you (or your org) had written it, but it links to Amazon and your site is gone. Amazon is more fun, so why should I hit my back button? Even if I don't want to buy the book, Amazon recognizes me and tantalizes me with 'suggestions' to keep me on their site long after I have forgotten yours.

The contextual links for Global Warming link back to the same page their on ... um, is there a reason? What do your links have to do with your Global Warming message?
Example thoughts of a user: "gee, this is global warming is really serious stuff. Wow, temperatures are rising and... hey look, Free Favicons!"

Your article links are nearly impossible to find on the Articles page. I saw so much empty space, I thought something was wrong. Try adding some 'design' to the page. Some style. Right now, it's a big blob of text.

One last peeve, in your opening paragraph your homepage tells me about all the wonderful things that are on your site. Don't tell me, you already got me there... just gimme what I came for. Tell me about Global Warming; I don't need to know that you're GOING to tell me about it.

Steve Krug calls that kind of time-wasting useless intro fluff "Happy Talk" in his book "Don't Make Me Think."
Get the book, read it, and redesign.

ADDITIONAL Note:
your site fails validation with 57 errors

Can't disagree with the post from Amorphic, particularly the point on the opening paragraph. Apart from being wasteful of prime textual space, the content borders on unnatural. Not helpful to visitors, or the site owner's hopes.

Personally, I would not adopt the Google Ads layout you have chosen. I appreciate this is an attempt to avoid looking like a Made for Adsense site but does not entirely succeed.

In a sense, both these points are connected. I know the logic is to plan for display requirements first but try switching this round. Put the ads out of your mind and create pages with valuable, well optimised content. The sort of website that will have visitors and links flocking in. Then decide how you can incorporate the ads with least disturbance.

This is a sad day for me.
I thought I had a rôle on this website, but it has been usurped by amorphic8.
More articulate than I and almost as sarcastic.

I wonder if I can buy globalcoolnow.com ?

,dave

P.S. What are these "Google Ads" that everyone refers to?

Much improved.
Soothing colors.
Adverts are unobtrusive.

It's pretty good and an interesting read.

One quick suggestion though. Can you break up the text into readable paragraphs?

I'd think folks would expect just a little white space every 6000 sentences .
