| Submit Your Site For Review Need a fresh set of eyeballs to take a look at your site? Have a specific issue or question about some aspect of your layout, design or interface? This is the forum for you. When submitting your site, be sure to discuss what aspect you are looking for input on. Just posting a link with the word 'review' isn't appropriate. |

Thank you so much for all the neat places to analyze websites! As explained in my profile, I'm an old fox learning new tricks - and you've already taught me a few. The site I want you to review is Kids Volunteer Opportunity, Homework Help, Easy Ways for Kids to Earn Money. (Why is this changing the site address?) It's a site I've been doing for my grandkids who live with me. At some point (soon I hope) I want to figure out how to get traffic to it and how they can earn $ from it for their college educations. Any help you give is great!

Welcome HappyGram!
The first thing I noticed was the site colors. Too bold and bright for me and caused me to want to leave or skim. I'd consider toning them down to try and make it easier on the eyes. I'd also suggest that you try and be more consistent with your text and links when it comes to colors and bolding. Bright blue, for example, is what many folks come to expect to be something "clickable". Try and make it easy for your visitors to identify what is text and and what are links on your pages at a glance and be consistent with that throughout the site. Yeah, I'm not crazy about the colors either. The 'kids' picked them out. What we need is something lively for kids but clean looking too. Any color schemes you think would look good?
The bold text - that's my fault. I didn't realize it made it hard to read - since I have vision problems myself. I'll take care of that page by page by page by ugh. I'm getting tired just thinking about it! I was wondering too about the change in colors from the kid's pages to the parent pages. The parent pages are local school colors - and I hate them. The idea is to visually separate 'kid stuff' from 'parent stuff' that the kids couldn't care less about...but how to best do it??? Thank you for the input! Mae |

You don't have to necessarily change the color scheme, just soften it so it's not so bold.
Here's a blog post with a color scheme tool that might give you some ideas... SEM News » Blog Archive » Picking a color scheme Dave |

Thanks Cranky Dave. I've not had time to work much on the site. We're gearing up for a kids' coats collection for area kids and lap blanket collection for a nursing home. It's going on from 10/21 thru 10/27 so for the next week or so I won't be getting much of anything else done.
Everyone - thanks for helping me encourage these kids to be all they can be in life! I think behind every website there's a story that's not just about making money online. In fact, with this site, we haven't figured out yet how to earn from it... |

There's a myriad of ways to monetize a site.
It appears to be a very locally targeted site. Perhaps contact local businesses and organizations about purchasing advertising. How about the local school district. Classified pages for rummage sales, cars for sale etc. A "supporters" page for anyone who likes what you're doing and cares to give a donation. I like your ideas! My thought was that if I could get it going locally then I could expand to a larger market. But you know what? 'Locally' I'm very frustrated. We have two 11 year old kids collecting coats for two school districts - one with 60% of the students economically disadvantaged - and a school rating that includes schools that are either 'academic emergency' or 'academic watch'. The other has 'effective' schools with approx. 33% of students economically disadvantaged - and do you think the 'local' newspaper put one word in about what these kids are trying to accomplish? Nada. Have the schools sent one flyer home with the kids? Nada. So much for 'local'. No, I think we're going to be looking for a market that's more interested in and supportive of the success of kids. And of course that means removing local info. I do want it to make money - so these kids can go to college or whatever higher education path they want to follow. I want their future to be better than their past...and h or high water this gram will figure it out for them! Thank God there are people like you who are willing to help!
