Question New site design

I'm about to change the site over to a new design (as soon as I figure out a menu for it). I'd be interested in hearing about what you people think of it.

This is the current design: X-Treme XM-150 Street Legal Moped

This is the new design of the same page: XM-150 Gas Moped by X-Treme Scooters
(still under construction)

Comments/suggestions?

Thanks.

I am not in love with it.
The menus are all over the place.
The color scheme/design reminds me a "gamer" site.
The marble background is hideous.
The contrast ratio between text and background in the Chatter Box is way too low.

You should read up on who is buying scooters. Women. Lots of them. I think this site is off-putting to women.

Thanks Dave. I needed a fresh eye on this one for sure!

>I know the menus are crazy. That's actually what's been holding me back is I've too many things to list easily.
>Is the color/design too dark? I don't think I've seen a gamer site (I'm an Atari and Coleco fan myself).
>How is the marble hideous? (I can remove it, just wondering)
>The contrast is too low. I'll work on it.

>So far this year, every one of my sales has been to males between 30-55. I do have a children's ride-on toys page that's pink and white which I think women would like better... but I'm not sure if that would work here.

Now that also brings up another idea; I'm building a site to sell inexpensive southwest-styled jewelry that is using the same "new" design. A female friend is telling me that in order to sell jewelry the site should be red(ish), "Red sites cater to selling jewelry to women". Comments on that idea?

Steal ideas from
Sportique Scooters - Where scooters come from.

I don't know about who is buying scooter, but being a woman I can offer some perspective from our side of the universe.

You've already discussed the menus and color/contrast. 'Nuff said.

And I hate to say it, but yes the marble/stone background is that back.

There is just plain too much information. If you want customers to buy your products they should be able to concentrate on your products. Fewer images - and that's coming from a graphic artist! - and less "noise." Keep product information and images together on a page, information and "interest" stuff on separate pages.

By breaking your content out onto different pages you gain the additional benefit of being able to have more specific pages which will help with SEO.

Move the logo to the TOP of the page. Anything above it won't get read.

I like the site that Dave suggested. It's very inviting and easy to navigate.

Default Pictures sell

Pictures sell, you have a nice picture of the scooter, on the home page, the picture should definitely show the ENTRIE scooter, on my browser it looks like portions of the handlebar are not on. Nevertheless it is a major improvement over the old one.

I'm not sure why you have Google ads on your home page directing visitors away to competitors' sites.
