Default When does Google award a page rank

I have recently created a new accommodation website for my partner, (Cavewoman).
I would appreciate any helpful comments and if anyone has an idea of when Google will give it a page ranking, at present it is 0.
The website is accommodation Dundee bed and breakfast Scotland UK Dunhill golf

Your PR question really belongs in another forum, but you also want feedback on your site, I take it.

It looks as though you have your on page SEO started pretty well for 'dundee accommodation' ... you could add keyword rich anchor text to your links .... I suggest you study SEO: Where Do I Begin.

The 'sandy' background and the general look and style is a fairly dated.

Your site already has PR but it has not been reported yet. Google updates the toolbar every 3-4 months or so, generally ...

Hope this helps.

It's a bit plain for an artist site.

Wink Re: When does Google award a page rank

As the others have said, its a fairly plain site. I like to have some sort of border or frame on a site so the content doesn't look like it's floating in space. And I feel like there should be some sort of header to let me know what I'm looking at.

Most importantly, however, is the text. All of the text is the same which makes it very difficult to read. There are essentially no h1, h2 to lead me through the page.

Make the page easy to scan, clearly define separate areas (navigation, content, page header, etc.) update the background color and you'll have a site any artist can be proud of.

Hi Caveman

Few quick comments:
  • Like somebody else said, make your headings stand out better. People skim through a web page before reading. For example it took me a while to realize there was both B&B and self-contained on offer.
  • Why not list your subheadings of your pages in the site map, and create a direct link to the subheading by using anchors. For example, create a direct link to "Art Classes and Art Holiday Workshops" on the gallery page in your site map. It will also help to create a bigger site map and help both people and spiders find your info.
  • You could also add the subheadings to the main menu on every page maybe?
  • On the home page it says "visitors from USA and overseas": is the USA not overseas? I know they're everywhere but ...
  • And don't worry about PR, you want visitors!
Cheers!

I just had a look at your site and - try as I might - I could not find any mention of the prices charged. Is this deliberate, in order to get enquiries, or have I missed something?

Creating a website is just like painting. Just when you think you have created the perfect masterpiece, along comes a fresh approach and new ideas from a non artist and out comes the brushes again. Everyone sees things from different angles.
This forum has made me look closer at design as well as optimisation. Many thanks for your help. I always value others opinion, and having had a wee foray around your websites I can now see a clearer picture.

Back to the drawing board !!

MJ I look forward to Google's toolbar update, (hope its in a kind mood) I tried to look up your link to SEO: Where Do I Begin, but just got a 404 error.

BJ design for a painting and design for a website require quite different approaches, but I will rethink this aspect.

Jan. Good points and all the moderators websites incorporate these features, so I will be laying down my brushes and picking up the mouse.

John. Site map info will be one of the easier changes to make, I think !!
I checked out my map, and yes, USA is overseas. We get more visitors from USA than europe, so tend to look on them as one of us, whereas europeans were always over the sea. On the accommodation side visitors come from all over the world, even South Yonderup in Australia, but most of my internet art business comes from USA.

Ian, pricing will probably be incorporated in due course, but some rooms are being upgraded, and we also cater for long term residents from all over the world coming to Dundee for science and education as Dundee is a major centre for biological research sciences.

Thanks again folks.
Cheers,

Caveman

Hi CaveMan,

You are just down the road from me, im from the Granite City.

As people have mentioned dont worry too much about PR and visitors.

Conversions and bookings is what you are after.

I agree, don't *worry* ... however, if you don't pay attention to driving traffic (visitors) and if you don't get from sites with PR there won't be any visitors to convert to bookings unless you rely on PPC or other types of advertising.
