Question CAD Website Design re-design

Hi folks. We have been tinkering with a different possible layout for our website. I would like to run them past the forum members here.

We have our current site with its current layout, colors, etc. Then we have two jpg mockups of our site as well. Please review the three different designs and use the attached poll to vote for your favorite. You will be voting to either;

1. Keep the original look of Website Design Company | Web Design and Website Development
2. Develop and use concept #1 CAD Concept 1
3. Develop and use concept #3 CAD Concept 3
4. Go back to the design board and try again.

Thanks in advance for your honest input and voting.

I like your original or concept #3 the only thing is the white text is a bit hard on the eyes.

#2 seems as though the white text is even harder to read.

I voted to keep the current design, but mostly because I wasn't crazy about the black.
Black is hard colour to work with and may throw off your current clientele, with the radical change

I like the original. The two new ones look garish, and are hard on the eye.

I agree with Nick that the white text is hard to read, but I really like that header graphic you're using in #2 and #3, it really catches your attention and lets people know that you're not afraid of color.

hostbrain, hbonline, gwoodstrom, davidredwine,

Thanks for the input on the design.

I was having some problems with the black background too, but I just couldn't put my finger on it.

I enjoy using the colorful headers, as long as they have some meaning, but those shown probably wont be the final headers chosen for this remake.

I tend to agree with hbonline about the last concept submitted and we will most likely fully develop that one. I like the colors as it reminds me of a minty fresh feeling...

Of course the old design is breaking in FF at 100% and normal, has to be changed.

All of these designs have the "template look." As a customer I wouldn't be encouraged by any of them. For one thing there is too much wasted real estate. Unless your market is the truly unsophisticated customer, none of these designs has the authentic individuality I like to see in a designer's site. Complex backgrounds and shapes only impress the rubes. (I'm always looking for the impression created by graphic design, as its the part of websites I don't produce myself.) The headers take up too much space, the navigation takes up too much space.

I'm always much more impressed with designs that exhibit simplicity and innovative dynamic flow. back to the drawing board dude!

I like your original design and #3 jeffconcept3
Someone said the designs looked templated... hmmm maybe, maybe not. Opinions vary.

As a Virginia web company owner myself I have discovered some of my web business come from people who have browsed the designs on my site. So presenting your client web work on the homepage is a good idea.

Your site interior pages did not show many client sites or (examples). Website clients will want to see YOUR WORK.

Since we develop ALL custom sites I not only post links to the finished sites but also links to all my clients 'design proposals'.
(We call this our Design Gallery) Clients commented that they loved seeing different concepts we proposed for any one website.

And of course the client never chooses our favorite...they often chose our least favorite. Like I said before... 'opinions vary'.

Posting both live sites and design proposals gives my visitors a good idea about our wide range of creative and variety of styles. So if you are just beginning to build your client base, post your conceptuals. Give your audience some eye candy.

Cheers,
Rick
