Default New site headers advice which is best

We have two sites. Our existing site and our new site.
Please could everyone offer their views in regards to our header pictures which you prefer.

Our existing site has headers which are colourful. Please see the following link and keep refreshing the page because there are about 10 header pictures at the top of the page.

Wholesale fashion necklaces

The new site uses product pictures that are not as colourful and only show parts of jewelry with a lot of white space. Again keep refreshing the page as there are about 5 pics

Wholesale Costume Necklaces Online

Please will you all give your advice to which style you prefer and also say why you prefer it?

Please dont be scared to be nasty and give criticism. Much appreciated

steve

I like the new site. The photos are great with lots of subtle colors and plenty of white space. It's classy and subdued but the graphic is much too large IMHO.

You might consider splitting that area into two or possibly three columns so that you can display a graphic and one or two feature products or specials.

It's primo realestate, above the page fold, right where your users are going to look. You really should use it to your advantage.

Hi, I liked the second link Wholesale costume necklaces on line because the header *-image and text are more visible; whereas the first one i can barely make out the words on "Our Necklaces" in the Header image. Nicely designed overall though. Have you ever heard of a software called glyphuis? It's great for optimizing your Headings. Google it and consider purchasing it; it's a great tool to have.

Second one.

Except for the photo of woman behind the text. That one I could not read. All the others with the product on the left and the words on the right were OK.

"Other Interesting Sites" kind of sticks out like a paid sore thumb at the bottom.

What a fun question! I also like the new one, but the orange necklace on the original site (/fashion_necklaces) is so beautiful I think it should be added to the new header.

thanks for comments. The actual pictures we will update regular but i just wanted to get feed back about which style of pictures are the most visably pleasing to the eye. I have my favouite but i dont want to influence peoples desicions by saying which one.

Please keep the comments going as it will help when finalising.

I agree, this was something I put on a long time ago when trying to see if by linking out to sites in the same 'community' helped us for SEO. We seemed to do well after it and ive therefore been reluctant to move it.

Feel free to keep the links, but make them "fit" into the look and feel of the website better.

second one for definite

if someone lands on your site with the window of their browser small, or on a loew res screen, they may not see your jewekkry products immediately, with the second style images anyone can instantly see the style of jewellry you sell.

Also the white space on the right allows for you to introduce a click through on the graphics here so it is not just wasted image space that doesn't provide the visitor with any interaction.

regardless of all the usabiility issues the white space images are much cleaner, classier, and show off your products much better.

lovely site by the way

Hello,

Just my two cents. The original site images are pretty dull. What I mean to say is that the colors aren't very vivid and sharp. Also, some of the photography shots are too close and some you can't make out the image.

The new site images are much better. The one concern i have for the site is that the is so much white, that you can utilize color more across the site. Maybe shoot the product header shots againt a background instead of white.

I think the images in the original banner are more effective although I don't even recognize what some of them are. The new one lacks creativity… the motion in the imagery is missing in the new one. The original images have lines, curves and shadows to move the eyes and invite exploration… it encompassed the whole banner area. I found the second one boring, as if limited to a single pose and a stationary spot on stage... as if the jewlery had stage fright.

The grey text color is too light, I think… and not just on the banner.

I think it partly depends on the effect you want. The original is more bright and dynamic, probably more attractive to a younger audience. The new seems more subtle and classic - probably more attractive to an older audience.

The text over the graphics should have a then stroke or a glow around it to make it easier to read.
