Default /www.jetblackdesign.com - how to improve my website?

I am looking for some ways to improve my site. It is thefirstone I have designed. I'd like to know what people think of the colors, layout, etc. One person told me they had to scroll horizontally to see some things, yet I sent the site to numerous others who said they didnt, so I'm confused. I know I need some good graphics, I'm working on it. I guess my big question is "how good a site is this for someone's 1st attempt?" Also, i wondered whether you think it's better to pretend to be larger than you are to a customer or put a bio of yourself on your site to make it more personal. thanks a lot-Derek

JetBlackDesign,

It's good to see someone just starting out in the design field. We were all beginners once too.

Whatever you do, don't pretend to be anything other than what you are. There is nothing wrong with being a freelance designer and deceiving your clients is no way to run a business. Most small business websites are built by independent designers just like you.

Add an About Us page with your bio, picture, credentials, etc. People like to deal with people rather than a faceless, nameless website. Give your site a personal touch.

Tested in IE6 56k modem 800x600. Loads reasonably fast. Might be nice if the links changed colour when the mouse is passed over them. Text is too large and seems crammed into the middle. Otherwise, a good solid design although it could do with a little more colour. Good luck with it.
