Default Final year website in need of constructive criticism!

Hi, I'm an undergradute in my final year at demontfort university (UK) studying Multimedia Computing.

Anyway, I've completed a website trying to show a professional side to me as well as a chilled-out side...basically I've tried to do something different other than just another portfolio site, while strying to keep current web trends in mind.

So I would very much appreciate it if you could tell me what you think of my site (www.projectaddictive.com) via this forum and maybe give me a little advice if you have the time. You could also let know via email (ssingh@projectaddictive.com) or the blog section on the site.

(Note: When I took pictures for my site I had just finished doing an all-nighter and thus I wasn't in a very "smiley" place! I will however be adding more cheery pics to welcome people soon!)

Thank You for your time,
Sukhjinder Singh, BSc Hons (...almost!)

Hi Sukhjinder,

The site looks OK, but the background inside the content area is distracting, The background look OK with 5 or 10% opacity. Otherwise site bas clean look.

like the header and graphics alot and has some great information on it.

some comments:
navigation:- the 3 links at the top are not consistent - when on 'creatively' and 'addictive' there are 4 links, when on 'home' and 'about' there are only 3 - very confusing - keep navigation consistent. also the about me link remains brown and underlined through all pages

submenus:- on a lot of your pages you have a load of white space and just a list of headings - get some content here - have a bit of blurb about each sub menu item, and perhaps a 'featured' item for each. let the user know what they're getting for each of these. it enhances content for SEs and the users experience.

flash:-
Note: You will need the latest version of Flash/Shockwave Player to play these games or use the Games Room. If you do not have the latest version and you do not get assistance in downloading it from your browser, follow this link to the Adobe website for assistance.
you don't need all this just have a flash symbol and 'get flash' link.

links:- in my opinion you don't need to explain a link to a user (eg. this is an external link) unless it perhaps uses javascript or for some reason may not work - there's no need for this

content:- you talk a lot about why you have done something for YOU as opposed to how what you are doing will benefit/enhacne the users' experience. also if this is intended to be a sort of portfolio website it may be an idea to have a downloadable pdf cv?

design: don't like the 2 images behind the text on the home page - rule of thumb is don't place images behind text makes it difficult to read

css for text: get rid of the justification on the 'just a thought' section it messes up the spacing and looks odd and also where you have text under images make this small with less line spacing so it sits better and is recognised as a picture annotatioon, not as content.

i have nit picked a little there - sorry! it is overall a really nice looking site! sounds like your course is very similar to the one i graduated from 3 yrs ago though so thought would offer what help i could.

good luck!

People,

Cheerz all, and thats fine pagetta - i advise everyone else to nitpik as well, was just what i needed!

with the sub-nav links i got rid of for example "about me" on page of the the same name as i thought since the user was there they didnt need that link, but maybe i was wrong to do so...

all of the other comments i think were bang on as i already had doubts about those areas, the image on the home page for example-an explanation for that is that i had planned on having a flash intro of two versions of me talking, smart and casual to illustrate the professional and casual sides of the site, then jumpig to the home page with just faded silluettes of me. however that didnt quite work out as explained in my "intro gone wrong" vid on the site!

But thanks for taking the time out for the comments Pagetta and everyone else, they have helped a lot and i will def take them on board when writing my report and re-doing the site, roll-on graduation!
