Hi everyone! I'd be grateful if you could give me your thoughts about www.hellomagazine.com.

Its a news entertainment site, mainly UK focused, but looked at by users around the world.

Thanks!

Default RE: http://www.hellomagazine.com

First impression: blinking ads. This is really only my personal pet peeve, but blinking ads are a real turn-off for me. I am immediately inclined to move on to another site.

On the other hand, I like the changing photos under the "Oscar Hopefuls" headline. This is 'blinking' that is appropriate for the site. I found the advertisements moving in much the same manner, which effectively reduced your main story photos to yet another advertisement (first impression only, of course).

Please don't misunderstand: I fully expect to find advertising, and lots of, in a magazine. Doesn't matter if it is in print or online. More than one thing flashing, though, makes for an onslaught. Suggestion: Perhaps if you're set on selling moving advertising, you should not have your content moving. (or vice versa)

I like the content down the left very much, and all the thumbnail ads on the right - makes it quite readable. The colors work well, and having the subtopics highlight under the lighter topic headings makes navigation simple and inviting.

The format of one major article, followed by four with photos, followed by text links is excellent. Quite professional feeling, and easy to follow. And the banner across the bottom pulls it all together. Well done.

If you have the opportunity, I would appreciate a reciprocal review of http://www.webproworld.com/viewtopic.php?t=13691

Thank you.

There is too much going on, fighting for the reader's attention. Ads and ad-like blinking elements (New horoscopes by Jonathan Calmer). Further there are too many columns, with poorer visual flow as the chunks get smaller. The Oscar Hopefuls are not too bad, but it could have been done better. For example small thumbnails which show up in a central view area.

This layout is all about grabbing attention, without telling the eye where to go next.

Take a look at the People Magazine layout. Check out Entertainment Weekly.

The site need not copy the examples listed. However layout fractures visual flow, which furstrates the reader's need to move through a lot of material. The layout wireframe needs a rethink.

So typically British. For example, see http://www.thesun.co.uk

Hello is better than the Sun, but not by much.

Well I'm from Malta - so I do have quite some British influences - I kina like it. The blinking ads I have to say are a bit of an eyesore, however I like the rest of it. Cut down on the ads and I think it would work better.

It seems clutered but not badly. In other words there is a lot to look at but after 30 seconds it is clear what is where.

Liked the intro of the Princess.

Using Mozilla, which that may explain why I didn't notice blinking ads.

I might eliminate the left hand column, and move its main items to the unused divider at the top; just above the princess and do a drop down menu as you mouse over the bar. That would give you more space side to side so the ads are more noticable. (hey, you got to make money)

PS Put my vote in for Janet Jackson, when you add the catagory of Woman most likely to shoot herself in the foot.

Hi all.

Thanks for your comments and feedback!

The issue of online advertising is obviously a difficult one, but we try and ensure that the irritation factor is kept to a minimum. We need online advertising to survive, and its as simple as that.

The blinking that some people refer to is also kept to a minimum.

I've had a look at the sites from those who requested it.

The timbercreek site is very simple to use and is good for the market it targets. I'd like to see some more colour on it though.

The pasazz site is also, very clean and simple. It is perhaps a bit text heavy and I would personally like to see some more images.

Anyhow, thanks for your input.

Default British Tabloid Site?

Great job... keep it the way it is, its captures the essence of the silliness of it all and makes it fun to read..

I CANNOT BELIEVE I just spent 4 minutes of my life reading a profile of Jerry Hall!!!! Who knew she had an IQ of 146?

OMG... good job!

I like your page. It looks just like I'd expect that sort of 'magazine' to look like. Good job.

Without going anywhere beyond the index page, I will say I liked it (even though I personally don't like ads, etc)... it is what I expect a magazine site to look like... you've done a very good job!!!

Timberwolf B&B: I like your page. the pictures make me want to schedule time for a vacation! I wasn't too sure about the black background, but after a while I wasn't looking at the background I was just looking at the pictures.
