| Submit Your Site For Review Need a fresh set of eyeballs to take a look at your site? Have a specific issue or question about some aspect of your layout, design or interface? This is the forum for you. When submitting your site, be sure to discuss what aspect you are looking for input on. Just posting a link with the word 'review' isn't appropriate. |

Hi all,
I've just completed a revamp of our girls night site and would appreciate feedback on the new design. The layout has changed cosmetically and I have also added several new features and a blog. In particular I'm interested in opinions on ease of navigation in the shop section, http://www.girlznight.co.uk/shop/hair/. With the exception of the home page, the new layout is entirely css and I'm working through it to make it all semantically correct. Will also be making sure everything validates over the next week or so. Any feedback/advice greatly appreciated. Many thanks, David

your main page has CSS layering issues the search box is overlaying the top banner. the submit your article text on the top banner is not linked.
Your products page looks good.

Ah... that's actually the design on the front page :-)
Now that I think about it though it does look a bit odd and I might move it underneath like the rest of the site. Thanks for the feedback.

Many thanks for the feedback. I'll definitely move the search box, will also make it easier to lose the tables on the home page and go for a css layout. I'll also put the contact details in the header, it's something I was considering.
The problem I have with the site is that ultimately I want to (and need to!) sell products, however, instead of a hard sell I want to offer a service and feeling of community. That's where I am going with the "Plan Your Night" and "Submit Your Article" section. In return for articles, we're offering discounts on orders and other incentives (free hair cuts etc). You may have seen that you can also vote for individual articles. This is the third incarnation of the site in the last 6 months. The first design I felt was not commercial enough, while the second was too commercial. I'm trying to strike a balance where people will have a reason to visit the site other than to buy, although obviously once they are in, the hope is that they will then be interested in the associated products. I've still to link the articles to the product pages, but eventually what you will have will be for example: - Article on how to make the perfect cocktail Links on the article page to cocktail glasses, shakers etc It would have been easier (and far less time consuming!) to bang up a bog standard www.haircareandbeautyproducts.com, but there are already dozens of sites like that in a very competitive market and my aim is to do something a bit different. Time will tell I guess :-)

If it was me I would go with a social site of some sort for girls. A site that lets the members get involved. I would push the home page site visitors towards the social side of the site and use the social side of the site to sell my products.
Once the members get to know you it is a lot easer to sell to them. Then at the same time set up pages for each of your products and get those pages ranked in the search engines to sell those products. Just my two cents. |

Hi Janeth,
That's the plan for what's going to be behind that now infamous "Community" button :-p There will be a forum and various other bits in there. I really want people to get involved in the site and feel are playing a part in building it. Here's a link to our latest press release, which explains more about what we are trying to achive http://www.prweb.com/releases/2007/3/prweb512254.htm I guess taking it a step further, would be to let visitors create their own girlznight home pages with links to their articles and pictures of their girls nights out. Perhaps even offer @girlznight.co.uk email addresses. Never going to take on bebo or MySpace I know, but the social side of the web is definitely where everything is heading in my opinion.

First impressions look professional, clear & girly! Although the logo in top left of banner needs sharpened up I think this has already been mentioned - stands out for wrong reasons from the rest of the page.
I only had a quick peek but good luck.
