I didn't think it was so bad. Maybe you could soften it up a bit - add a little soft pink (really soft...) to the background. You have too many different types of font - be consistent (this is the same advice that was given to me re: my website.) Once you decide on a font then line your text up a little better - your text is centered and it looks kind of odd. Use a table if you have to.

Your product photos are really good. I will take another look later. It wouldn't stop me from purchasing something from you now if I needed something, it is not too bad but could be a lot better.

I'm getting scroll on a 800x600 screen. You could do with getting a HTML tidy program to tidy up your code as well. The first part is scary, about 20 TD's to make a spacer bar.

Default Google ranking

Hi Maureen,

If Google gives you a ranking of 0/10, that does not mean your site is bad. This just means it is not optimised at all for the Google robot...
Google ranking determines among other things the frequence of the visits of their robot in order to update their search database.
The only thing it means, is that you will be difficult to find with their search program (which is not a good thing, I admit...)
There are two things which are important for a better rating in Google: the content of your website (I do not mean that your models are not looking very nice, but this does not interest the robot at all...) The more sense text it can find, and the better your keywords are, the best your ranking will be.
Another important criteria is the number of links pointing to your site from other sites. Google considers a site with a lot of links (I even think the internal links are taken into account as well), the most important your site is.
My site has a ranking of 4/10, and the googlebot comes along each 3 weeks nearly.
Try to exchange links with other sites. The ranking of the sites pointing to yours is probably important too...
http://www.whisky-distilleries.info

Keep on trying, your work is not bad at all...

Default website critique

I concur with what has already been said. I'd like to suggest this to you:

Spend some time searching for what you offer on Google, Alta Vista, Yahoo, and Lycos. Make a list of the sites that come up first on each one. Look at the first 5-10 sites. Look at their source code and observe what words are in the title, description and keywords. Then check to see if they have any informative text on their site, and if within that text they have any links to pages at their site.

Check and see how many links they have to other sites, also.

This all takes time, but once you have evaluated your stiffest competition, you may know what it will take to move your site up higher.

It looks to me like the words in your title, and your keywords could be improved upon. They just aren't descriptive enough. Search engines look for words, and ignore graphics.

One more thing....the animated lips are distracting. Appropriate for the items you are selling, but they still distract. Is that what you want? Animations, music, etc. can all work to your detriment. They are fine on a personal page, if you are designing a fun theme. But for e-commerce, no matter how sexy the lips are, I think I'd avoid anything moving. That's just my opinion, from what I have read in books on website design.

Maureen,

All I would say is that your sight does have that
build a web site software feel about it and that you would get a lot more on your pages with smaller font size.
But it certainly isnt a bad sight as everyone has said do a search on the more common engines and view the source to see what the first 1 to 5 have as keywords etc in their meta tags then adjust yours accordingly and again as already suggested link in to similar sites e.g wedding sites etc.

All the best

Billy

Sorry Maureen

Forgot to agree, animated images scrolling text slide shows etc. dont always project the right image and are a bit off putting and annoying.
But it may just be me!

My rule as you'll see at my site (below) is simple and straight to the point (depending on who your audience/customers are)

All the Best

Thank you for your input great stuff. I looked at your site. Looks great but if people want to buy it there are no prices & when you go to your contact page it was hard to find your phone #.

Thanks again

Your site is basic and functional - but sexy would be better!

Look at some templates - or at Netobjects fusion - and make it all a bit more slick for my tastes.

But at the end of the day - if you are getting sales and being found, thats all that really counts.

You can't criticize results - it it works then its good.

Maureen,

The first thing that catches your eye on your opening page is the Visa and Master Card Logos. I think they might be better, smaller and at the bottom of the page.

Your navigation links are huge. I think I might try to make them into subjects with drop down links for the individual items.

The links all seem to be graphics and the bots do not recognize graphics. If you would use Alt tags, that would be a big help. Lots of people, especially those on low speed dial-up modems, turn off Graphics on the Internet so they can load pages faster. They would be completely lost on your site without an Alt tag describing the graphic link and pictures.

Having all your text on your home page, center justified is confusing. A very successful marketing copywriter told me to use bullets, whenever you can. This will grab your attention. Most of your text would make good bullet points.

Your "add to cart" buttons could also be put on the enlarged picture when you click on your thumbnails. That would save your buyers having to hit the back button. You might also consider using a smaller button.

I will make one more comment, but please do not take this as a bad thing. Your home page has a couple with lingerie with a US Flag theme. I moved from California to the middle of the bible belt in Texas. Many people here would be offended by that picture. I don't find it offensive but I am sure my neighbors would.

You commented on your PR being zero. Many sites are and are successful. You would need to optimize your page to satisfy GoogleBot. That is not always easy. I have been doing some research on that subject and have some advice I publish on my website about SEO. I don't claim to be an expert, but feel free to look it over. http://www.bowiewebdesign.com/marketing.htm

One last comment. I would make an effort to dress up your Title with a nicer text with maybe a drop shadow or embossed look.

I hope this is not too critical.

Just a quick list:
The visa/MasrterCard logos need to go, you might want to put them at the bottom or something but with e-commerce it is just about assumed that you accept both.

Invest a few bucks and get a logo and header, that would help a lot.

The home page has way too much stuff on it. "Free shipping" is repeated at least three times. You might add a few more smaller images and use them as bullets for the important stuff. Make sure all of the vital info is above the fold.

Consider shortening the left-hand navigation list, that many buttons is overwheming and a number of them are repeated in your footer.

Movie your page title to the left and make sure your use of upper and lower case is consistent. The pink is hard to read.

It is a LOT better since the last time I looked at it. Maybe you could purchase a template later, but it is definitely a functional site, keep up the good work, you are getting lots of good advice. When your budget allows, buy a template or hire someone to touch it up for you (I'm thinking about doing the same thing), or just keep fiddling with it. Or maybe check out some other lingerie sites to see how they are set up. It is looking a lot better.

I don't get it. Your site is perfect. The women look amazing as does the lingerie. Super easy to use, pictures enlarge when clicked on and a shopping cart too. Aside from putting up more styles, a 1-800 (877) number would solidify your business. I would buy from you.

Default Contact Us! LOL

Maureen,
My guys loved your site! In fact some of the guys here in Korea wanted to copy your models onto their desktops + they also added the url to their computers so they could order lingerie for their girls back home in the states. But thats not what you're looking for here. As far as the design of your site I personally loved it and think you did a great job! The softer pink looks very gentle on the eye.(So does every thing else!!! LOL) Anyway it is very well made and navigation seems easy. Don't be suprised if some of my guys try to contact you for the models names lol! They are crazy and homesick, never mind them lol! Have a great night.
