Default Wedding Videography Site

I recently started a video production business. The web site was taken from a friend whose pastoral duties kept him too busy on weekends to pursue it anymore. I took his existing site which he graciously allowed and which I had actually built some time ago, changed the name and gave it a new domain (the original expired and was picked up by a domain registry). I did some basic SEO but would like to get some feedback on this as well as the overall appearance.

Default Forgot to mention

I forgot to mention that I am trying to target more of a local client base in the San Antonio / Central Texas area where I am located.

Search around for how to use the javascript workaround for your flash so users don't have to click once just to make it active, and then again to navigate the site.

Clean looking site elsewise - I will let someone else comment on the SEO aspects of it.

Default Flash

Thanks. I agree now that you mention it. I am not real crazy about links in flash.

Default Some SEO thoughts

1st and foremost - new domains take time to achieve value - patience.

As Flash Goes:
Keep in mind - everything within the Flash is of little value to the search engines. So your title and links should be seperate elements on the page. Keep the ring effect - nice.

As metatags go:
Title - Include some top keywords. Your title assumes people are looking for you by name and no keyword relevance is captured.

Description - Precious real estate. Starts great (btw the beginning of your description is good copy to have on the home page) then fades quickly stating, "Contact us or visit our web site for rates and learn more about our services." They've found your website. At 372 characters in length you could condense this tag and yet say more.

Keywords - don't forget key-phrases. Ex. "wedding, photography," The search volume for "wedding photographer" is over double the volume and more relevant. And, "weddings, videographers" could also be stated as "wedding videographer" (two good phrases for your title and...

Copy - (searchable written words on the page)I can see where you're going with your copy - yet your not capturing the hottest keywords & key phrases that are currently being used by searchers.

Off the top of my head (= not my best copy writing)

Ex. "While still photography is wonderful for an album, nothing can replace the impact of a professional video to relive your wedding day."

could read,

"Traditional wedding photography and the use of still photos can make for beautiful wedding albums but, in comparison, nothing captures the whole sight and sound experience of your wedding day like professional wedding videography from Finer Works Productions"

And maybe

"When you choose us you get the highest quality wedding video from an experienced wedding videographer..." blah, blah

When your metatags (unique to each page) are more relevant to the written words (unique to each page)on that same page the relevance of the page in code and copy will help searchers find your services.

Off-Page elements - Build reputable and relevant inbound links from other sites. Take advantage of Google Local and Yahoo! local.

Build trust and brand recognition by offering free whitepapers that would be of interests to brides, grooms, parents - these could be as simple as "Wedding checklists for the bride to be"
and so on...

Hope these suggestions are of help to you. Best of luck.

Dave

Before I clicked on your site I was very much expecting a lovely picture of a blushing bride... I didn't see one :( Otherwise looks good, I would like the graphics to be a bit cleaner, but thats not to big of an issue.

Thanks David. Your insight was very helpful. It looks like I have some work ahead of me but I know a lot of this was overlooked and not considered in the initial design. I appreciate it greatly.
