Tested in IE6 56k modem 800x600. I agree it's too dark. Slightly too wide for 800x600. Graphics are a bit slow to load. Otherwise, a good design. Good luck with it.

The background is too dark, I think, but I like a lighter color website background, I think it is an eye strain issue or something. It is beautifully laid out. I'd lighten up the background. Example: I could barely make out the red text on the Sale page - all sales final? You don't want people straining to read that, you definitely want that to jump out.
You have some beautiful pieces, I'd buy, definitely. But very hard to read, the dark background gave me eye strain. I have money to spend at your site but the eye strain would make me want to leave. Another suggestion: the pictures should be a link to purchase the item shown - I kept looking for that capability, especially with that Inward necklace. I would buy that, definitely.

Nothing wrong with a dark background (see www.neckwares.com ) but the problem is the jewelry fades into the dark background. I have done quite a bit of research on jewelry sites, since that is what I also have. I'd suggest you check out your competition and see what the general rule is for displaying jewelry. As an artist, I really think you need "contrast" to highlight your jewelry. I know we all want to be different, in the hopes of getting a piece of the market. Hope this helps.....

All of your comments were very helpful. I think I am going to stick with the background. I will adjust the color of the text, as not to cause you anymore eye strain. Good idea regarding having the article pictures acting as a submit to cart feature. And will definitely work on the set widths. I might also retake the photos of the pieces... a little time consuming. This is a sort of freelance project. Thank you again for all of your comments. Keep a look out for more websites that I will post for review.
