Default My First Design Site

www.monochromedia.com

Just finished it, what do you guys think?

I designed all the images, the template and the PHP weblog from scratch (difficult, might I add, because I don't know PHP). The only pre-made items are a few scripts (like the lightbox script or the email validation script). Anyway, I'd love to hear your opinions!

Thanks,
Peter

Default Graphically pleasing...not focused...

Not a bad site for your first go. From a graphical perspective, it's fairly pleasing to the eye. The main issue is that it took me a bit to figure out what you do.

Also, in your text, and in your blog, as well as payments through paypal, it seems, well, a bit amatuerish.

I'm sure that you'll get on the right path, I wouldn't even imagine of showing anyone what some of my first designs looked like, but of course, that was almost a decade ago.

Keep working hard and you'll get there. Also, what in the world is the orange for?

Well, I figured it matched the color and slogan, should I change it? I need a "logo" of some sort.

Also, what do you mean about the PayPal, etc? Should I make those pages more structured?

-Thanks for the feedback!

Default Logo Yes...Paypal No...

Logo would be a good idea. If it doesn't have anything to do with your business model, kill it.

Regarding Paypal, accepting payments through "paypal" looks to me like someone who can't get setup with CC processing.

Like I said, you'll get there, just read a lot of info on here, and keep moving forward. Don't get lazy.

The reason it may sound a little amatuerish is because your text is all about "I", not about "you".

As a prospective client, I really don't care about YOU, I care about what you can do for ME.

To put it another way, what are the benefits for me as a client?

The client couldn't care less what you have been thinking about, (s)he just wants to find something that will put the client in front of the clients competitors.

I like the design, by the way...
