I'm guessing it's a news site but it took a couple minutes before I figured that out.
I'm using FireFox to view the site.

The header tells me very little about the site.

A banner in the top right hand corner made me believe that I was on some type of army site at first but now I'm thinking that might not be the case.

A little more time shows me the site is about polls.

I like the idea of the site but would make a couple changes.

I would change the colors and go with maybe a darker color blue instead of the light green.

I would change the header and use pictures to tell something about the site.

I would change the text around to make it better explain the site.

You have three seconds to let the visitor know what your site is about and that the site is right for him.

It took me a couple minutes to figure out the site and I don't think most people will spend that amount of time on the site before clicking away.

The top right banner is an AdSense ad - I can see how that would be confusing.

You may want to move it out of the header and into the top part of the text.

By doing that you stand a better chance of getting more clicks on the site as well.
