Default review please

Okay, so I know I'm not that great. I have a job as a full time programmer, but a few friends and I have web design experience as well, thus Major Web Solutions.

Please let me know what you think:

http://www.majorwebsolutions.com

It's my first real try with all css, and all hand coded in notepad++. I designed sites around 3 years ago, so there was a bit of a learning curve, but hopefully I'm getting back on track.

Oh, and I don't like the background much, too much blue in my opinion, but it was what won the vote lol. I'd like any suggestions on what would work better.

Thanks guys (and girls).

A few suggestions:

How many colours do you really need?
You're almost using a full spectrum: blue, green, yellow, orange, red.
(If you add purple you'd have a full rainbow!).

Try choosing a simple colourscheme, but remember
that different hues suggest different kinds of business....

Try not to frame everything;
Space is usually the best seperator.
This also simplifies your layout...

Why have two menus that offer the same?
Why not move the bottom-menu to the top,
and omit the left-menu that looks somewhat cluttered..?

Also, blue text always looks like a link. Avoid it if it aint...

Hope it helps...

It certainly jumps out at you, doesn't it?

It's not that the colors clash or anything, but there are a lot of them on one page. See what you can do about taking some of them away.

nice use of colors
there is no underlining of colors and some visitors may not understand what is a link and what is not without moving the mouse over the links
left column is nice

Default colors

Hmmm...

I agree... Less colors. Basically what these guys are saying, the more "clean" the site looks, the more professional it is.

By having to many colors, you dont have a "personality" unique to the site.

Take Yahoo for instance, they use that dull bluish color everywhere. Or even this forum, webproworld...

The color scheme is mainly blue.

Your colors match, but they stand out to much. You want your users to see the site, and the colors/graphics complement the information, not vice versa.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the replie guys.

I've taken what you've said into consideration, and it helped me realize that yes indeed, there were too many colors.

I've already removed all the green, narrowing it down to blue orange and yellow. I'm also going to do a few more updates to help "clean" up the look, and also add a flash animation.

I've already made some changes, and more in the future, so if anyone is interested in seeing them http://www.majorwebsolutions.com

Personally i like the clean look of single color schemes...

again like webproworlds forum, where the colors of the page match the logo.

If you notice everything on this form is related to the color blue some way... (light blue, dark blue, grayish blue... even the lines are kinda blue...)

Good luck with your site... looking better as you work on it :)

Yes, it looks nicer now, with fewer colours.

Another suggestion, do you really need to emphasize all that text?
I'm thinking of the text highligted with yellow - it's a strong colour but it also tends to tire the eyes.

How about black text on white background - with highligth only when it's really important..?

Hi WoWzers,
I have to agree on the colors they are a little bright.
On the mouse over I would only use two colors, not really a reason for three.

I would also have a phone number on every page and change the email so I can contact you with out having to write down the address.

But the design looks good for the most part.
