Default Feedback on my eCommerce Site

First off I know their are compatability problems with my site. I am a Mac user who prefers safari and firefox, yet I despise Internet Explorer in general. I optimized my sites content to work well in Safari, Firefox (win/mac), and Internet Explorer 7 (win/mac). The site is a stock aerial video eCommerce store which opened up as a competitor to Getty Film and Corbis Film. I want to know what people hate and like about the site and I don't want people to hold back. The site has been live for 3 months and we want to know good and bad. Thanks

I have to say that I'm not keen on all the black space. And for a video/media site perhaps you could use some colour blends and gradients to mimimise the flat colours in use at the moment, make it a little more "artistic". Your code looks OK though.

It looks good to me.
You gotta keep in mind, that many people do not use flash & won't be able to view your site.
Why have a website if Everyone cannot view it?
I only started using flash, but normally I do not have it & if a website requires it, I just don't go there.

Default I agree as well...

Chaunte, I agree with your opinion about flash, yet statistically all new machines have flash installed as a default, and as for security options, flash is a great source for "harder-to-steal" movies. Yet with the advancement in technology, with screen video capture devises it isn't perfect, yet when we set out to launch the site we kept those options in mind. We decided on flash over quicktime. Eventually we are going to go through and offer different alternatives, yet for launch flash did the trick for us. I appreciate your feedback and thank you for taking the time to look at the site. In a community such as web, it is imperative to hear everything the community has to say.

However much you may "despise" IE, some 80% of you potential customers will be using IE6 and they will find the top of the categories doesn't work properly - "Previous" disappears under the menu. They will also see the menu is double spaced.

Flash is not bundled as standard with either IE or FF - for PC anyway...

Default thanks

Thanks for the input. As for flash, all new machines bought in the stores come with flash installed as a basic plug-in, similar to machines coming stock with quicktime, or real player. I have a PC, shipped with IE7 and flash standard. I see a time for change on the horizon, and for the most part, media and graphics firms are running mac's, production firms are running macs, and our clients are running PC's w/ firefox. Downloading flash player is the same as having to download quicktime, and for video content flash offers must better resolution and much better streaming capabilities. I understand you statistic, but it is off, and people should learn that Standards Based browsers are the way of the future. Why not put the word out to those who are stuck in the past, and deal with one version of IE. The standards compliant version 7. Although still in the Beta 3 testing phase, IE7 is up there with Firefox and with Opera and Safari. I understand that 50% of people run IE5 - 6, yet there are way to many bugs to deal with when the company you works for has a somewhat limited budget and also run IE7.

i wouldn't worry about your little Flash movie playing below the header. most modern users are Flash-equipped, and if they are not, it's an easy remedy. if the whole site was done in Flash, then there may be an issue, but the movie you use shouldn't be a problem at all.

however, i'm not sure i equate a site that has the word "video" in the domain with stock photography.

Default Thanks for the feedback

Chris,
Thank you for taking the time to give me feedback on this forum. One clarification though, is that the site is selling stock video, like Getty Film does, yet quicktime and flash are both very popular, and we went with flash due to the "harder to steal" ascpect of the FLV streaming media. Although if the user is tricky they can go into the cache on there local machine and use the FLV, yet we are not worried about that to much. Again, thank you for the positive feedback as that is what the forum was set up to do. Many of the forums are so full of people who are full of themselves and believe it is their way or the highway and I think that being overly critical of technology that "isn't what I would use" isn't the reason for this forum.

Default thanks for the stats

All stats remain different, I thank you for taking the time to send me these though as these seem like legitimate numbers calculated in a world wide setting.
