I’m so excited about my new site and the ease with which I got it up and running that I want to post a special tribute to everybody who puts in time and effort to develop and contribute to open source software projects. It makes it possible for people like me who have the ambition to be webmasters but lack the skills to be web developers to have a site up and running in a couple of hours. Right now to me, it seems almost miraculous!

In my case, I went to bed one evening excited about an idea for a website. I wanted a site that would allow people to pay special tribute to others who mattered or made a difference to them, a ‘digg’ for the world of personal news! If I had set out to get this done when I first started trying to make a living on the web four years ago, this would have cost me thousands of dollars to have developed. It wouldn’t have been an option for me at all. But now only hours after first conceiving of my idea, I have a site up and running doing everything I needed it to and a little bit more and it hasn’t cost me a cent thanks to open source developers.

Getting exactly what I wanted at no cost has suddenly brought home to me the vision and of course the generosity of the people who contribute time, effort and resources to open source projects. It gives me a whole new perspective and inspires me to contribute back to this community in whatever way I can.

It’s probably all the more fantastic because this would never happen in the offline world! It is almost unique to the web! But who knows, maybe it will catch!

So on that note I want to thank everybody involved with pligg and invite you to review the site that I have put together with their software and let me know if and how I can improve on it!

It says in the top right hand corner what the sit is... bigkudos is where you come to say thank you or well done to people who deserve a small bit of recognition! If your boss gives you a $5000 pay rise kudos him on bigkudos.com. If your sister has beaten cancer kudos her on bigkudos.com. If you think save the whale does momumental work kudos them on bigkudos.

The site is basically a digg.com for the world of personal news! Whatever story is hit the most kudos, that story goes to the front page!

The idea is that people who submit a kudos will want their story to get the most kudos, make it to the front page and publicise the person they are kudosing!

No. .

It needs more work, but all sites need more work.

I have been re-workin my own site now for eight years. It is still basically one big mess. . .
but I have good traffic now.

Expecting to get your website right first week is just a dream. . dreams come true if you force them to come true in the case of websites.

A lot of work ahead of you smeagher, I quite like the concept, I think it will appeal to some webmasters who might well be tempted to do a bit of self 'kudos' You will need to aim more at 'tempting'(target) webmasters to submit.
