Thanks for the comment Dcrux I appreciate you taking the time.
Regarding you comments on Competition and imitation which I don’t understand the difference very well but it is a concern to me.
Here is my take on that subject:
At some point in the past someone thought of writing a program to go off and collect all the websites, put them in a big list then allow people to search the list, and they called it a search engine. The website would be a simple input box. Now there are thousands of search engines with arguably the same web design.
I see competing as an aggressive term where one tries to beat or take something away from the other. If I created a News site then I would be competing with Digg and I would be uncomfortable with that.
But I’m not doing a news site I’m doing something fundamentally different. News is transient here today gone tomorrow and websites are not. The best websites need to stay the Best and at the top but also New or active/Hot websites need to get a chance too so we can sort in recent activity or recent tag cloud etc.
So yes I’m using ajax to increment a vote number and sorting on that number and yes my site looks like old Digg but some things you can’t get away from, if I designed a new car it would probably have 4 wheels because that’s a good number to have.
I believe there is a deficiency with search engines they favour the Big companies with the budget to pay to be listed top or they have a large advertising budget, Big network connections.
Most people here are fighting to get a foot hold with
SEO etc for simple reason They can’t afford to pay to be listed at the top.
On my website you can’t pay to be listed at the top and it doesn’t matter if you’ve got a page rank of 15 or a multimillion dollar budget, if the people don’t think you’re the best you aint going to be VotedTop
Wow long answer I must be guilty ><
