I have just started an online directory for my local town. I am looking for some feedback about the site.

First impressions are that it is a business directory for Ashford which I guess is exactly what you want. I personally think the red star looks a little amateurish and I think you could probably find a better image than the Ashford road sign.

I always think that a good local site is the one for Leigh in Lancashire (www.leighlife.com). Admittedly it's more of a chat / local news site than a business one but there may be some mileage for you to make more of your Ashford Chat section as a way of driving more people to your site.

When I typed in "Ashford business" in Google, I got www.thisisashford.co.uk as the number one returned result so why not have a look at what they're doing and see if you can pick up some tips.

Looks like a potentially great web site. Colours and design are a little splashy. With time I am sure they will settle in a bit to something more sedate and worthy of the cause. I think the green is too limey and you have rather too many shapes and colours coming at the viewer at present eg the blue search button and the different green at the top. Also the nav system is not clear. You have a menu top right, middle and more links bottom right. It's too much for my addled little brain. A directory is centered round the nav system and that has to be clear, easy to use and it helps if it is nicely designed.
